DIPR Cultural Unit hosts Symposium on 'Uses and Abuses of Social Media' in GHS Shivnagar Udhampur

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 03: Cultural Unit, Department of Information and Public Relations, Jammu today organised Symposium on the topic "Uses and Abuses of Social Media" at Government Girls High School Shiv Nagar, Udhampur.

The symposium was organized to aware the students regarding uses and abuses of social media.

As many as 10 students participated in the competition.

The students presented valuable information on the topic and were judged on parameters of Pronunciation, Modulation of Voice, Factual Representation, confidence etc.

Sudha Sharma, Karuna Gupta and Seema Bharti were the Judges.

The 1st position was bagged by Mehak, 2nd position was secured by Sidra, while 3rd Position was secured by Rano. Consolation prizes were given to Meenakshi and Isha.

Speaking on the occasion, the Headmaster of the School, Nek Ram Sharma educated the students regarding the topic and appreciated the Department of Information & Public Relations for organising the event in the school.

Among others, staff members and a large number of students witnessed the programme.

The program conducted under the supervision of Cultural Officer Jammu, Nasir Ahmed Khan.

Lt Governor releases Dr Ramesh Tamiri's book "Pakistan Invasion on J&K"

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 03: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha released the book titled "Pakistan Invasion on J&K (1947-48)- Untold Story of Victims", authored by Dr Ramesh Tamiri, at Raj Bhawan today.

On the occasion, the Lt Governor congratulated the author and the editorial team and extended his best wishes for their future endeavours.

"Kashmir After Kalhana", a book on historical landscape of Kashmir written by veteran critical historian Dr R L Bhat was also released.

Kalra College of Education, Patnitop, Organizes Insightful Lecture on Teacher Education in Accordance with NEP 2020

Patnitop- Kalra College of Education, affiliated with the University of Jammu, organized a one-day Extension Lecture on "Teacher Education with reference to NEP 2020" on February 3, 2024, in collaboration with the Council for Teacher Education Foundation (CTEF) J&K Chapter. The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the invocation of blessings from Goddess Saraswati.

Dr. Anil Kumar Sharma, Chairman of the college, presented a bouquet to the esteemed resource person for the day, Dr. Jaspal Singh from the Directorate of Distance & Online Education, University of Jammu, Jammu.

Dr. Jaspal Singh delivered a comprehensive lecture, shedding light on various provisions and reforms in Teacher Education as outlined by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He emphasized that NEP 2020 aims to usher in significant reforms and dynamic changes in the field of Teacher Education. Notably, he introduced the concept of the 4-year Integrated Teacher Education program, marking a major reform to attract motivated and interested individuals to pursue a career in teaching.

The lecture was attended by a substantial number of Pupil-Teachers and Faculty members, including Sukhwinder Kour, Surbhi, Bindu Chopra, Sandeep Singh Rana, Rekha Sharma, Shagun Shalini, Mabhu Bala, and Arshdeep Gupta.

Sukhwinder Kour extended a formal vote of thanks to Dr. Jaspal Singh and the Council for Teacher Education (CTEF) J&K Chapter for organizing the insightful program. The CTEF, a national body established in 1986, is dedicated to advancing the cause of Teacher Education in India and abroad. The event proved to be an enriching platform for discussions and insights into the transformative changes in Teacher Education under NEP 2020.

Becomes first district in Jammu division to impart training to beneficiaries

UDHAMPUR, JANUARY 22: National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) organized a five day long training program on cutting, tailoring and barberry skills here today marking the commencement of the first batch of training under the PM Vishwakarma scheme in Jammu division.

Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Saloni Rai, graced the event as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the training program. The ceremony was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Joginder Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner Joginder Singh Jasrotia, Joint Director MSME G. Velladurai, GM DIC Pankaj Anand, Chairman, GK Educational trust, Gourav Khajuria and other notable officers, besides representatives of GK Trust.

DM Jammu reviews arrangements for JKSSB exam

JAMMU, JANUARY 22: District Magistrate, Sachin Kumar Vaishya today convened a meeting of concerned officers here in Teachers’ Bhawan to review the arrangements for OMR based written examination for the post of Accounts Assistant (Finance) of J&K Service Selection Board, scheduled to be held on Jan 28, 2024 in the district.

The meeting was attended by Additional District Magistrate Ansuya Jamwal, Regional Transport Officer, Chief Education Officer JK Padha, Member JKSSB Atul Kumar and other concerned.

The DM was briefed by ADM with respect to the status of arrangements at 87 examination centres setup across the district for 33793 candidates. The Centre Superintendents, Observers, Magistrates for each centre have been nominated and briefed with respect to their roles and responsibilities.

The meeting discussed various aspects of the examination process, such as security arrangements, logistics for transportation, safekeeping of examination material and efficient traffic management, role and responsibilities of manpower, the arrangement for basic facilities, pre and post exam procedures.

The DM stressed that free, fair and transparent exams are the top most priority of the District Administration and any laxity in following SOPs of conduct of examination will be dealt with strictly.

He emphasized the importance of time, urging all officers and staff to strictly adhere to the timeline. Additionally, he stressed the need for thorough frisking of both male and female candidates and their belongings to ensure no candidate enters the exam center without proper screening.

The DM directed the concerned officers to facilitate the candidates and make the process smooth and seamless.

During the meeting, the RTO Jammu was directed to ensure proper transportation arrangements to the designated examination centres and lifting of the material.

Similarly, the Heads of Institutions were directed to ensure proper arrangements at exam centres.

RAJOURI, JANUARY 22: To foster corporation with the media, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Om Prakash Bhagat today chaired an interactive session with the local media persons.

During the engaging discussion, media persons commended the District Administration for its proactive measures to address public grievances and enhance the overall development of the district.

The discussion focused on the crucial role played by media persons in generating widespread awareness about online services and the national campaign for a "Nasha Mukt Bharat" (Addiction-free India).

During the session, the Deputy Commissioner Om Prakash Bhagat emphasized the importance of media cooperation in highlighting people's concerns and expressed gratitude for the efforts of the journalists in shedding light on both developmental initiatives and public issues.

JAMMU: In a spectacular display of faith and communal joy, over 20,000 devotees thronged the Shri Raghunathji Temple to culminate the three-day grand celebrations in connection with the consecration ceremony. The atmosphere was filled with religious fervor, as devotees commemorated the momentous occasion by dancing to the beats of Dhols and drums.

The third day's festivities commenced with the successful culmination of the Akhand Paath of Shri Ram Charitmanas by renowned Vedic scholars specially invited from Chitrakoot, Ayodhya.

The Shree Raghunathji Temple was transformed into a divine spectacle adorned with vibrant flowers and radiant lighting, providing a sacred ambiance for the worshippers who gathered to celebrate this significant event.

The highlight of the Bhajan Sandhya was a special presentation for the children of Muskaan Home, warmly received by all present.

During the Bhajan Sandhya, a music album by Ravi Raghuvansi titled 'Aa Gaye Ram Ayodhya Mein' was released by M.K Ajatshatru Singh, Union Minister Meghwal, MP Jugal, Dr. Ritu Singh, and others.

The Bhajan Sandhya was compeered by Suganda Sharma.

The evening culminated in a mesmerizing Deepotsav, with Dr. Ritu Singh and Adv Purnima Sharma lighting 11,000 lamps in the temple complex.

Presenting a vote of thanks, M.K Ajatshatru Singh thanked all the dignitaries, scholars, artists, devotees, and the media for contributing to the success of this historic occasion.

DC reviews Republic Day arrangements in Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, JANUARY 20: To finalize necessary arrangements for the smooth celebrations of the Republic Day -2024, a meeting of District Officers from line departments was held today under the Chairpersonship of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Saloni Rai here in the Conference Hall of the DC Office Complex.

Additional District Development Commissioner Ghan Shyam Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner Joginder Singh Jasrotia, Additional SP Anwar-Ul-Haq, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Rafiq Ahmed Jaral, Chief Planning Officer Mudassir Yaqoob Zargar, and other district heads attended the meeting.

Threadbare discussions covered various aspects, including seating arrangements, barricading, security, traffic regulation, drinking water and power supply, sanitation, transport, distribution of prizes, illumination of government buildings, first-aid, PAS, fire-tenders, and refreshments for students participating in the national function.

It was decided that the main function would take place at Government PG Degree College Boys, Udhampur. The chief guest would hoist the National flag and take the salute at 9:55 AM. Contingents from J&K Police, District Police Line, SKPA, NCC, and Volunteer Home Guards would participate in the march past.

The event would commence with the Shehnai Vadan program in the morning by the Information department.

Speaking on the occasion, DC urged all officers to ensure timely and efficient arrangements for the smooth and enthusiastic celebration of the national event. She emphasized the presence of officers and employees from all departments at the venue on the day of the function. Specific directives were given to departments responsible for seating, barricading, drinking water, and uninterrupted power supply.

The Chief Medical Officer was instructed to deploy one ambulance with a team of doctors and necessary medicine until the end of the function. District and Traffic Police were tasked with ensuring security and traffic management. Committees such as the Reception Committee and Illumination Committee were formed to ensure the success of the national celebration.

DC underscored the importance of celebrating the function with patriotic spirit, fostering close rapport, and coordinating between different agencies to ensure all necessary arrangements are in place well in time.

“Creativity, interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence and sensitivity are the qualities which will make a
person relevant & employable in the present age of machines and artificial intelligence,” said Raksha Mantri
Shri Rajnath Singh while addressing the NCC cadets during his visit to the Republic Day Camp at Delhi
Cantt. on January 20, 2024. He appreciated the NCC for equipping the cadets with these qualities and
ensuring their all-round development to lead the next generation.
Sharing his insights on the rise of artificial intelligence in today’s technology-driven era, Shri Rajnath Singh
asserted that with time and further advancements, people will begin to focus more on creating a career in
sectors where machines cannot execute the desired tasks. He, however, stressed on the fact that even if
machines could perform physical & intellectual tasks, they cannot be creative, generate consciousness and
develop interpersonal skills like humans. This is where, he pointed out, the NCC is playing a crucial role.
The Raksha Mantri said: “The NCC, through its various initiatives & programmes, is ensuring holistic growth
of cadets by making them physically, mentally & emotionally strong, developing their social skills and
instilling the feeling of patriotism & national pride. Along with studies, it is extremely important for the
cadets to imbibe these qualities. This will help them to give their 100% in the progress of the country".
On the occasion, Shri Rajnath Singh gave away the Raksha Mantri Padak and Commendation Cards to the
NCC cadets for their exemplary performance and devotion to duty. This year, the Raksha Mantri Padaks were
awarded to Senior Under Officer Makkatira Kalpana Kuttappa of Karnataka & Goa Directorate, and Junior
Under Officer Dechen Chuskit of Jammu Kashmir & Ladakh Directorate. The Raksha Mantri Commendation
Cards were given to Under Officer Amar Morang of North Eastern Region Directorate, and Senior Under
Officer Jyotirmaya Singh Chauhan of Uttar Pradesh Directorate. The Raksha Mantri described the Investiture
ceremony, which witnessed the participation of cadets from different regions of the country, as the perfect
example of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.
The NCC cadets also presented a colourful cultural programme to the Raksha Mantri and other distinguished
guests. Shri Rajnath Singh lauded the energy and enthusiasm of the cadets, terming their performance as
excellent.
Earlier, the Raksha Mantri reviewed an impressive 'Guard of Honour' presented by the cadets representing the
Army, Navy, and Air Force wings of the NCC. It was followed by a band performance by The Scindia
School, Gwalior. He also visited the Flag Area of 17 NCC Directorates, depicting various social awareness
themes. In addition, he paid a visit to the 'Hall of Fame', which houses a collection of alumni photographs,
models and other achievements of NCC over the past 75 years. DG NCC Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh and other
senior officials of NCC & Ministry of Defence were present on the occasion.

The Directorate of Distance & Online Education , University of Jammu, organised an Expert Lecture to provide awareness about the 'Role of DIETs and Functions of their Various Wings' in the Education System in General & Teacher Education in particular. The Resource Persons (Prof CL Shivgotra and Dr PK Dhar, Principal, Bhargava College of Education,Samba) deliberated at length about the History, Origin,Objectives and Functions of Different Wings of the DIETs.The progamme was reported as very informative and useful by the Teacher- trainees undergoing Personal Contact Programme. On the concluding day of B Ed . P*P Programme today, the students expressed their deep gratitude & thanks to the programme coordinator, B.Ed. Programm, Prof Jaspal Singh, for organising P*P, Field Visits & informative Lecture like the one held today. A feedback session with students was also help with the purpose to improve the services further. The programme was attended by more than 350 students.The programme ended with Vote of Thanks by the Course Coordinator, Prof. Jaspal Singh.

JAMMU, JANUARY 04: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha addressed the 8th Convocation Ceremony of SKUAST Jammu at Baba Jitto Auditorium, today.

A total of 590 students including 347 female students were awarded degrees in various subjects.

On the occasion, the Lt Governor congratulated the graduating students, teachers and staff of the SKUAST Jammu and all those researchers, innovators, who are contributing in building the University into a centre of excellence for Agricultural Science and Technology.

He conferred medals to the meritorious students and extended his felicitations to the women students for their excellent academic performance across the subjects and securing 10 Gold Medals out of total 11.

With their talent, intellect and skill, young women are gaining prominence in Agricultural Science and Technology. The number of degrees and awards to our proud daughters is heartening. They are the role models for young generation and have set an example by hard work in pursuit of excellence, he said.

“Our daughters constitute the core and strength of innovation ecosystem. It is a matter of pride and there is a need for scaling up the presence of woman scientists and tech entrepreneurs at all levels to secure the progress of the nation,” the Lt Governor said.

Acknowledging the important contribution of women in agricultural development and allied sectors, the Lt Governor said, “Women have toiled hard as unsung heroes in the field since the start of agriculture thousand years ago. Now, their achievements in agricultural science and technology give us the hope and confidence that they will produce path-breaking discoveries and inventions in agriculture”.

At the convocation, the Lt Governor called upon agricultural universities and educational institutions to develop innovative agriculture technologies and enhance productive capabilities of the farmers.

As Jammu Kashmir leaps towards building a modern and sustainable agriculture and allied industry through Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), educational institutions will have to take innovative approach to minimize the input cost for farmers and maximise output with efficient growing techniques and technological support, he said.

“A huge opportunity awaits India in Agri Innovation, Agri Technology and Processed Food and institutions like SKUAST will play a major role in creating cutting-edge technology and new methods to revolutionise the food processing sector,” the Lt Governor further added.

The Lt Governor assured every possible support to SKUAST Jammu from the UT Administration in terms of resources and extended his wishes for the university's continued success in its endeavours towards shaping a brighter and prosperous future.

He further advised the SKUAST Jammu to work on a dedicated project with immense export potential like Tulip’s planting material that could address the agriculture & allied sector’s need of the country.

Dr. B.N. Tripathi, Vice Chancellor SKUAST Jammu read out the university report and highlighted the academic, research and extension activities of the University.

Due to adverse weather conditions and poor visibility, the landing was not possible in Jammu. Therefore, the Hon'ble Vice President of India was not able to attend the convocation, he said.

The Lt Governor also planted a tree sapling in the vicinity of the university.

Sh Jugal Kishore Sharma, Member of Parliament; Sh Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Sh Shailendra Kumar, Principal Secretary Agriculture Production Department; Sh Santosh D Vaidya, Principal Secretary Finance Department; Sh Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department; Vice-Chancellors of various Universities, Heads of educational institutions, senior officials, students and faculty members of SKUAST were present.
