در پی کمبود گازوئیل برای فعالیت آخرین نیروگاه برق لبنان، این کشور از روز شنبه ۲۷ مرداد با خاموشی گسترده مواجه شد و حتی فعالیت تاسیسات کلیدی مانند شبکه آب و فاضلاب، بنادر، فرودگاه و زندان‌ها نیز مختل شد.

شرکت برق لبنان در بیانیه‌ای اعلام کرد که در نتیجه کمبود گازوئیل، نیروگاه زهرانی که آخرین نیروگاه فعال این کشور بود، مجبور به توقف فعالیت شد. در این اعلامیه آمده است که با تامین سوخت ذخیره، ژنراتورها دوباره به فعالیت باز گشته و سطح برق تولیدی به میزان قبلی خواهد رسید.

به گزارش شبکه خبری الجزیره، کشور الجزایر وعهده داد است که برای حل مشکل برق لبنان و جلوگیری از خاموشی‌های گسترده، ارسال سوخت به این کشور را در اسرع وقت آغاز می‌کند.

لبنان در سال‌های اخیر و در اثر مشکلات اقتصادی دولت، بیش از پیش با مشکل کمبود سوخت و قطعی برق مواجه است.
