TUWJU State Council meeting takes key decisions
Hyderabad, Jan. 12:
The State Council meeting of the Telangana Urdu Working Journalists Union (TUWJU) was held at its headquarters in Shah Nagar, Misri Gunj, on Sunday, during which several key decisions concerning journalists’ welfare and organisational strengthening were taken.
Presiding over the meeting, TUWJU president Dr. Shujauddin Ifteqari urged the Telangana government to provide a monthly honorarium to senior journalists aged above 55 years, through the Urdu Academy, in recognition of their lifelong service to society and the profession.
The meeting also demanded that the government extend ₹5 lakh ex gratia to the family of an accredited journalist in the event of death. The Union resolved to provide financial assistance to the families of deceased members and to extend support, as far as possible, to ailing journalists. The issue of health insurance for journalists was also discussed.
The Union announced that a membership drive would be conducted from January 12 to January 20, 2026, across Hyderabad and all districts of the State.
Members welcomed the government’s decision to include a representative of Urdu media in the Accreditation Committee, describing it as a major and historic achievement of the Union. They said the move would benefit all Urdu journalists, irrespective of their affiliation with any union or association.
It was also decided to submit a formal representation to the government regarding certain shortcomings in recent government orders related to journalists.
The meeting began with a recitation of the Holy Quran by Maulana Mohsin Pasha Qadri Naqshbandi, State Secretary, and the proceedings were conducted by M***i Mohammed Rayeesuddin Qasmi, General Secretary. Union patron Dr. Sajid Meraj spoke about the organisation’s activities and achievements.
