Women can offer ‘namaz’ in mosques: AIMPLB to SC

Lucknow: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has informed the Supreme Court in an affidavit that the entry of women into mosques for offering ‘namaz‘ inside is permitted.

However, free intermixing of genders in the same line or common space is not in conformity with the position prescribed in Islam and that needs to be taken care of by segregation within the premises by the management committee, if possible, the board said in a statement.

“Considering the said religious texts, doctrines and religious beliefs of the followers of Islam, it is submitted that entry of women into mosques for offering namaz inside mosques is permitted,” the board added.

Apart from this stated position in the affidavit, the board also appealed to the Muslim community that wherever new mosques are constructed, this issue of making appropriate space for women be kept in mind.

The apex court is seized of a plea relating to the entry of Muslim women into mosques for offering namaz.

One Farha Anwar Hussain Shaikh had filed a petition in the top court in 2020 and has sought a direction that the alleged practices of prohibition of entry of Muslim women into mosques in India are “illegal and unconstitutional”. The plea is likely to be heard by the apex court in March.

The board also said a Muslim woman is free to enter a mosque for prayers and it is her option to exercise her right to avail such facilities as available for prayers in a mosque.

ECI announces election schedule for two MLC seats in Telangana

Hyderabad: The biennial elections to two seats of the Telangana Legislative Council, one teachers’ constituency and one local authorities’ constituency, will be held on March 13. The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday released the schedule for two seats of the Telangana Legislative Council, along with 13 seats of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council.

The term of Mahabubnagar-Ranga Reddy-Hyderabad Teachers’ constituency MLC Katepally Janardhan Reddy and Hyderabad Local Authorities’ constituency MLC MS Prabhakar Rao, will end on March 29 and May 1 respectively.

The ECI announced that notifications for these elections will be issued on February 16. The last date for filing of nominations will be February 23. The nominations will be taken up for scrutiny the next day. The last date for withdrawal of nominations will be February 27. Polling will be held on March 13. The counting of votes will be taken up on March 16.

The ECI announced that the model code of conduct for these elections would come into force with immediate effect in the constituencies concerned. Accordingly, the Chief Secretary and the Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana were directed to ensure that the extant instructions regarding Covid-19 containment measures, were complied with while making arrangements for conducting the elections.

YS Sharmila presents shoe box to chief minister KCR, dares him to join her padayatra in Telangana

YS Sharmila, the chief of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Telangana Party (YSTRP), while addressing the media on Thursday, presented a shoe box and said she was gifting a pair of shoes to Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao. She further challenged him to join her padyatra in the state. The padayatra will resume on Thursday from the same place it was stopped earlier.

Addressing the media, YS Sharmila said, “I challenge Telangana CM KCR to walk with me in the padyatra.”

Fire breaks out at newly constructed Telangana Secretariat building

Hyderabad: A fire broke out at the newly constructed Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat Complex building on Friday early hours.

Sources said the fire erupted from the top floors where the wood work for interiors was on around 3 am. The workers noticed smoke and immediately alerted their in-charge.

On receiving information, about 12 fire engines rushed to the spot and the fire department and police personnel took part in the fire fighting.

Fire officials said the fire was completely brought under control.

They were ascertaining the actual reasons for the fire accident.

Fire Department DG Y. Nagi Reddy and other senior officials visited the spot and monitored the operation.

Telangana: Fire breaks out in a warehouse in Hyderabad

A fire broke out in a warehouse near VST in Chikkadapally of Hyderabad on Thursday morning. As there was decoration material used for auspicious works, the fire is spreading fast. Due to this, the entire area was covered with thick smoke. Firefighters reached the spot immediately and trying to bring the fire under control with the help of four fire engines. Meanwhile, as there are small bastis in the vicinity of this warehouse, the locals are expressing concern. It seems that the fire started due to the shot circuit and is estimated that there has been a huge loss of property in this fire accident.

Fatal road accident on Rajendranagar Appa Junction Outer Ring Road. Two died.

The car that hit the lorry. Two people traveling in the car died. Another was seriously injured. They were immediately taken to the hospital.
A car bumped into the lorry which was in front at the Outer Ring Road Exit.

Dead bodies stuck in the car. Police are trying to get the bodies out.

Accident occurred while going from Shamshabad to Gachibowli. The car hit the container from behind. The woman died along with the driver. Suspected to be husband and wife.

Outer Ring Road Traffic personnel were trying to pull out the car with the help of a heavy crane.

It is assumed that the accident had occurred due to confusion. Rajendranagar Police and Traffic Police rushed to the scene of the incident.

Visakhapatnam to be new capital of Andhra Pradesh: CM Jagan Reddy’s big announcement

New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday declared that Vishakhpatnam will become new capital of the state, in days to come.

Addressing a press conference, the Andhra CM said, “I invite you all to Vishakapatnam which will be our capital in days to come. I will also be shifting to Vishakapatnam in near future. We are organising Global Investor’s Summit there on March 3 and 4..” he said.

For political watchers, this announcement doesn’t come as a surprise though. The state government on previous occasions had spoken about its intention to develop 3 capitals, each serving 3 specific roles of legislature, judiciary & executive.

Man marries daughter-in-law in Uttar Pradesh

Gorakhpur: In a shocking incident, a 70-year-old man has married his 28-year-old daughter-in-law in Chhapia Umaro village, here.

Photographs of the ‘couple’ are now going viral on the social media.

Kailash Yadav, who works as a chowkidar at the Barhalganj police station, lost his wife 12 years ago and his third son also died sometime later.

Kailash got his widowed daughter-in-law, Pooja, married again but the wedlock did not last, after which she returned home and started living in her husband’s home.

Kailash, without informing anyone in the neighbourhood or the village, quietly married Pooja and it was only after the photograph went viral that people came to know about it.

Inspector J N Shukla of Barhalganj police station said that he had seen the photograph on the social media and would now inquire about the marriage.

Nandamuri Taraka Ratna faints during padayatra, rushed to hospital

Ex-CM Nara Chandra Babu Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh launched padayatra in Kuppam on Friday, and he is accompanied by several political leaders. Actor-turned-politician Taraka Ratna is also part of the padayatra. Lokesh performed a special puja at Lakshmipuram Sri Varadaraja Swamy Temple before launching padayatra. After walking a short distance, Lokesh joined the prayers in the mosque there. Taraka Ratna also went inside the mosque along with Lokesh. While coming out of the mosque, it appears that Taraka Ratna presumably fainted due to the suffocation from overcrowding.
In a widely-shared video, Taraka Ratna was seen being carried to a hospital by the doctors. He reportedly underwent several tests at the hospital, but the actor’s team has not released an official statement regarding his health yet. Sources say he had no pulse when he was brought to the hospital and his body turned blue. His pulse is back after 45 minutes of treatment. The actor is currently recovering after receiving medical treatment, as per a report by a popular news platform.
