Australian Royal Navy Chief Vice Admiral Mark Hammond and Indian Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar held bilateral discussions on the increasing attacks on merchant ships by Yemen's Houthi rebels in the Red Sea, along with military-related and other issues. The Chief of the Royal Navy of Australia is on a five-day visit to India from Tuesday.

The Indian Navy said the talks between the two naval chiefs focused on strengthening bilateral maritime cooperation, mutual training, information sharing and enhancing operational proximity. The naval chiefs of both countries have called for strong action against Houthi rebels in the Red Sea.
