Haflong, 25 July 2023 : A Protest Rally was taken out today,25 July 2023, through the main street of Haflong against the attacked on tribal women in Manipur state on 4 May 2023.
The massive rally was organized by the Dima Hasao Joint Womens' Organisation, Dima Hasao, Assam; which was participated by almost all the community in Dima Hasao.
The protesters gathered at Lalfield, Haflong from 9:30 am, moved towards Synod rotary and back to Council Rotary and back. They gathered in front of DC office and submitted Memorandum to the President of India and Prime Minister of India through DC. They also give copy to Assam Chief Minister and DC.
The protesters expresses shock, anguish and sorrow over the gruesome and unimaginable incident where our two women, belonging to minority tribal community, were paraded naked on Camera, videographed in the presence of a hounding waring mob on May 4, 2023, and later made viral on social media to a horrified witnessing world.
They says "We are deeply saddened at the horrifying ordeal suffered by our innocent sisters; gang raped by a throng of barbaric perpetrators belonging to majority community in broad daylight. Words fail to describe our indignation at the abominable behavior of these savages constantly groping and molesting the helpless victims even as they prayed and pleaded with heart-wrenching tears, for their dignity and their life. The incident took an equally tragic turn, when the perpetrators cold-bloodedly murdered theteen-aged brother, for trying to save the dignity of his sister."
The existential angst of the womenfolk in Manipur, and the nation as a whole is all but palpable in the event unfolding from the existing conflict in Manipur.
"We are made to understand thatthis lone incident is only the tip of the iceberg, as similar cases have been left unreported for fear of their lives, or even if reported, no action whatever has been taken by the autho
NHAI opens the blockade of road near Rekho in Dima Hasao
Haflong, 14 June 2023 : Landslide due to continuous rainfall had blocked the road at Rekho Village near Harangajao this morning.
But the workers of NHAI opened the blockade at around 2 PM again.
So, the vehicles started plying again in this busy National Highway Road in between Silchar and Jatinga of Dima Hasao district.
It may be stated that thought the blockade of the road has been opened by the team led by DRA Engineer, but the two culverts are still blocked by debris of the landslide. It will take more time even with the help of JCB to clear all these in the two culverts.
It also looks that land may occur again at any time if heavy rainfall continue.
Mention may also be made that the incessant rainfall also cause Jatinga river over flooded. This result in blocking the way to and fro Lower Kharthong area to outer world.
