India is a diverse country, and politics in India has been very active ever since the establishment of its democracy. With a wide variety of parties, ideologies, and policies that span across the political spectrum, Indian politics continues to evolve with time. The current ruling party in India is the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which came into power after sweeping victories in both 2014 and 2019 elections. The BJP has been at the helm ever since 2014, when then Prime Minister Narendra Modi led his party to an unprecedented victory – winning 282 seats out of 543 seats up for grabs in Parliament. This was followed by another strong victory for BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition government in 2019 general elections where it bagged 303 seats out of total 545 seats. This landslide victory made Modi’s second term as Prime Minister even more successful than his first one.
The main opposition party continues to be Congress Party led by Rahul Gandhi who assumed office as president on 16 December 2017 replacing Sonia Gandhi who held this position since 1998 until her retirement from active politics after her son's takeover.
Since independence in 1947, Indian politics have seen many ups-and-downs with various governments being formed at center either through general or mid-term elections or through coalition among various regional parties based on their agendas and ideologies.
Politics have always played an important role in deciding all public affairs related matters within Indian society such as economic development & growth rate; poverty alleviation & social upliftment; energy security & sustainability measures; infrastructure development including transport networks - roads/railways/airports etc.; foreign relations especially with neighbors like Nepal et al.; defense procurement & upgradation programs etc.
Various regional issues too are monitored closely such as providing adequate water supply across states; improved agricultural production techniques ; evolving farmer welfare schemes ; industrial policy reforms ; efficient administration tools for rural upliftment via decentralized governance systems etc..
In recent times there has been much focus on making “Digital India” a reality which will bring about transparency In governance , improved citizen engagement , better connectivity nationwide etc .
India also participated actively during UN Climate Change Conference 2015 at Paris wherein commitments were made towards reducing carbon emission levels thereby decelerating global warming effects .
Indian Politics thus remains dynamic yet vibrant due to widespread participation by citizens cutting across ages , genders & castes thus making it one of world's most vibrant democracies today .
