Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has announced a recruitment drive for 400 Engineer Trainee and Supervisor Trainee posts. A 30-year-old woman was allegedly r@ped and attacked with acid in front of her children in Assam’s Cachar district, police said. The shocking incident took place on January 22 when the accused, a neighbor of the victim, entered her house while her husband was away. A verbal argument broke out between them before the attack.

According to the police, when the victim’s husband returned home, he found her lying on the floor with her mouth, hands, and feet tied. Officials also confirmed that an acid-like substance had been poured on her body, leaving her in a critical condition.

The woman was immediately taken to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, where doctors are treating her. Her condition remains serious due to the severe injuries caused by the attack.

Meanwhile, the accused is on the run, and the police have launched a search operation to arrest him. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken, and further investigation is underway to gather more details about the crime.

A professor at Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT) in West Bengal has been sent on leave after a video of her marrying a first-year student inside a classroom went viral. The professor, from the Applied Psychology Department, was seen dressed as a bride, exchanging garlands and applying sindur (vermilion) to her forehead. A handwritten certificate, signed by three witnesses, the student, and the professor, also surfaced online.

Following the video’s circulation, university authorities launched an investigation into the incident. The professor defended herself, claiming that the act was part of a project planned for the fresher’s party and had been misinterpreted. She alleged that the video was deliberately leaked to tarnish her reputation and said she would file a police complaint against those responsible for spreading false information.

Acting Vice-Chancellor Tapas Chakraborty stated that the matter was being taken seriously and a committee had been formed to investigate. He said the professor had explained that it was an academic demonstration and not an actual marriage. However, given the controversy and the video’s widespread circulation on social media, the university asked her to go on leave until the committee submits its findings.

Despite the professor’s explanation, some members of the university community have raised concerns. Another faculty member questioned whether such an act could be justified as an academic exercise. The university’s teachers’ union has also filed a complaint against the professor, and the enquiry committee will determine the final outcome of the case.

The outbreak of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) in Pune is spreading quickly, with 101 confirmed cases and one death reported so far. In just the last 24 hours, 28 new cases have been recorded. Currently, at least 16 patients are on ventilator support, raising concerns about the severity of the situation.

GBS is a rare but serious autoimmune disorder where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own nerves. The symptoms often begin with tingling or weakness in the legs, making it difficult to perform simple tasks like wearing slippers. As the condition progresses, the weakness can spread to the arms, making it hard for individuals to grip or hold objects.

In severe cases, GBS can affect the lungs and breathing muscles, leading to the need for ventilator support. The recent cases in Pune have been linked to Campylobacter Jejuni, a bacteria commonly found in contaminated food and water. People who have eaten food from outside, consumed raw or undercooked food, or drunk unclean water are particularly at risk.

Health officials are urging the public to be cautious and practice proper hygiene to prevent further spread of the disease. The authorities are monitoring the situation closely and taking measures to control the outbreak.

There are 5 vacancies for the role of Project Intern, with a monthly allowance of Rs. 5,500. Candidates must be in their final year of B.E/B.Tech in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a recruitment drive for 212 posts, inviting applications for the roles of Superintendent and Junior Assistant. The Superintendent position has 142 vacancies and offers a Pay Level 6 salary. A recent study suggests that middle children may have an edge when it comes to personality traits, making them more honest, humble, and cooperative than their siblings. Conducted by Canadian researchers Michael Ashton of Brock University and Kibeom Lee of the University of Calgary, the study challenges the stereotype that middle children are overlooked and forgotten. Instead, it highlights how their position in the family may foster desirable qualities.

The researchers used the HEXACO Personality Inventory, a test that measures traits like honesty-humility, agreeableness, and emotionality. Middle children scored the highest in honesty-humility and agreeableness, suggesting they are more forgiving, cooperative, and less likely to manipulate others. These individuals also tend to avoid entitlement, wealth, and luxury, showing a grounded approach to social interactions. Interestingly, youngest siblings followed closely behind, while eldest and only children scored the lowest in these traits.

Despite these findings, the influence of birth order on personality remains a debated topic. While this study supports the idea that middle children develop unique strengths, other research disputes such claims. For instance, a 2020 study argued that birth order does not significantly affect personality traits, questioning stereotypes like the narcissistic only child or the assertive eldest sibling.

Notable middle children who defy the “overlooked” label include Martin Luther King Jr., Madonna, Warren Buffett, and Abraham Lincoln. This research adds to the ongoing discussion on how family dynamics influence personality development, offering new perspectives on the often-underrated middle child.

A 31-year-old Colaba resident, Akash Kailash Kanojia, faced life-altering consequences after being wrongfully arrested in connection with an attack on actor Saif Ali Khan. The incident occurred on January 18, and Kanojia claims the false accusation cost him his job and a potential marriage, leaving his family devastated. The mix-up reportedly stemmed from a mistake by the Mumbai police, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Kanojia was detained by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Durg railway station while traveling from Mumbai to his hometown, Nehla in Chhattisgarh. He was heading to visit his sick grandmother and meet his prospective bride. Speaking to PTI, Kanojia shared, “The Mumbai police mistook me for someone involved in a robbery attempt at Saif Ali Khan’s residence. They ignored key differences like the moustache I had, which the suspect in the CCTV footage lacked.”

Following his arrest, the RPF released Kanojia’s photograph, which was widely shared by TV channels and social media. This led to immediate fallout in his personal and professional life. His employer terminated him without explanation, and the bride’s family canceled the planned meeting. “One mistake by the police ruined my life,” Kanojia said, adding that his family was heartbroken after seeing his photos circulated as a suspect.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday that Dibrugarh, located 478 km east of Guwahati, will be developed into the state’s second capital within the next three years. The decision aims to evenly distribute administrative functions, boost development, and address the needs of the state’s diverse population. The move is also seen as part of a larger outreach effort ahead of next year’s assembly elections.

During the Republic Day celebrations held for the first time in Dibrugarh, the Chief Minister shared his vision for the city. “In the next three years, Dibrugarh will become an important city in India,” Sarma said, adding that the city will soon see major political and administrative developments, including the construction of a permanent assembly building.

The CM announced that the foundation stone for the new assembly building will be laid on January 25, 2026. Starting in 2027, one annual assembly session will take place in Dibrugarh, transforming it into a political hub.
