Billionaire industrialist and chairman of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, Pallonji Mistry, died last night at his home in Mumbai.
He was 93 years old. Mistry is survived by his wife, Patsy Perin Dubash, and four children: two sons, Shapoor Mistry and Cyrus Mistry, and two daughters, Laila Mistry and Aloo Mistry.
Over 150 years old, Shapoorji Pallonji Group is one of India's biggest companies and reclusive billionaire Pallonji Mistry has been credited for its success.
Founded in 1865, construction giant Shapoorji Pallonji Group covers six business sectors: engineering and construction, infrastructure, real estate, water, energy and financial services. It is distributed in 50 countries.
Pallonji Mistry was born into a Parsi family in India. He then took Irish citizenship by marriage in 2003.
In 2016, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, the country's third highest civilian honour, for his contribution as an industrialist. He was one of the oldest billionaires India had ever seen.
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Mistry is the 41st richest person in the world with a net worth of $28.9 billion. He is ranked ahead of Azim Premji who is ranked 48th.
