35-year-old tourist was killed when he fell down during paragliding at a temporary resort set up on Dibru riverbed in Assam's Tinsukia district, officials said on Thursday.

The Tinsukia district administration suspended all activities of the resort and ordered a magisterial probe into the incident.

The resort was set up illegally on Dibru riverbed at Guijan as the area falls under the eco-sensitive zone of Dibru-Saikhowa National Park and was offering various adventure sports like paragliding, official sources said.

The paraglider, identified as Pankaj Gogoi, fell from the parachute when the jeep pulling it got stuck in the river sand due to "some reason" on Wednesday afternoon.

He was critically injured and succumbed while being taken to hospital, an official said.

Locals alleged that the facility, was set up illegally and is owned by a businessman, who is a "BJP leader".

In a shocking incident reported from Assam’s Kokrajhar district, five members of a family, including 3 women, reportedly committed su***de inside their house on Sunday night.The terrifying incident took place at Tulsibil bazar under Gossaigaon subdivision in Kokrajhar district. Five members of a single family reportedly committed su***de in the house of a certain Nirmal Paul at Tulsibil bazar under Gossaigaon police station.
Apart from Nirmal, his family members — identified as Mollika Paul, Niha Paul, Dipa Paul and Puja Paul — also ended their lives.
The Paul family had been residing at the Tulsibil Bazar for several long years. Locals have said that the Paul family members — a fixture in the locality — were not seen in the morning and later found hanging in their house.

Three Bharatiya Janata Party functionaries in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district were shot dead by terrorists late on Thursday evening. The three include the district general secretary of the party’s youth wing , Jammu and Kashmir police statement identified the three as Fida Hussain Yatoo, Umer Rashid Beigh and Umer Ramzan Hajam. The incident took place in YK Pora locality of Kulgam.

Today SP Anand Mishra and other officials gave their farewell to ex DSP(HQ) Trinayan Bhuyan.

"The worst part of a farewell meeting is that after it's done you will have to leave and the best part is that everyone says positive things in a Farewell" said Trinayan Bhuyan and also added that he had learned a lot from his previous mentors and seniors like Longnit Terang, Yuvraj Saurabh and the brother figure Anand Mishra. Bhuyan said that he learned a lot from Dhubri and tried to maintain a bonding between the civilians and the Police which he will continue in his next adventures too.
"Trinayan is very much like myself, we have so much similarities among us. Though we worked together only for few months but i feel like i know him since long and we will always stay in touch and i hope you people are going to stay in touch too." Said Anand Mishra who also wished Bhuyan and his family a wonderful journey ahead and who hopes that someday soon Trinayan Bhuyan will return to Dhubri as an Additional Superintendent of Police.
Police officials including Anand Mishra praised Trinayan Bhuyan for his leadership and called him a very supportive person and also called him all all-rounder. Trinayan Bhuyan also praised the Dhubri police team and Anand Mishra for their support and said that he will miss Dhubri Police and Dhubri. He thanked the people of Dhubri in his last speech with numbed eyes.

We the Dhubrians saw many great police personalities but some police officers immortalised themselves in the heart of Dhubri and Trinayan Bhuyan is one of them.

Former Assam chief minister Syeda Anwara Taimur passed away in Australia on Monday at the age of 84. The lone woman chief minister of Assam was residing in Australia with her son for past few years. She had been ailing for a long period of time.

Taimur was the chief minister of Assam from December 6, 1980 to June 30, 1981.

From 1983 to 1985 Taimur was the Public Works Department (PWD) minister of Assam. She was elected to the Assam Assembly (MLA) in 1972, 1978, 1983, and 1991.

Her death has been widely mourned cutting across party lines.

A construction labour of the newly inaugurated Vishal Mega mart in Dhubri died in an accident.
According to local reports the labour was digging the ground for some elevation related work.
At the edge of the digging ground there was a huge metal tank which stood on a metallic frame.
When the labour was continuously digging the ground the edges of hole slipped down a huge metal tank which stood on a metal frame fall upon the labor causing severe injuries. The labour lost his life before reaching the hospital. The body has been taken for post mortem.

Niha Paul a topper in Political science also a student of Dhubri B.N College committed su***de. She is a resident of Shantinagar, Dhubri and is also a brilliant 5th sem student. The reason of su***de is still unknown but some sources says that she was suffering from a rare kind of lever disease and her father, the only bread earner of the family was having difficulties to give proper medication to his daughter. The investigation is going on and the final conclusion to the story is yet to disclose.

Our condolence to her family and May her soul Rest in Peace.

Legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam, who had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chennai after testing positive for COVID-19 during the first week of August, passed away today after a long battle with the coronavirus. Since it was a mild case of Covid-19, SPB was asked to quarantine himself at home. He chose to get himself hospitalised as his family members were concerned. His condition deteriorated on September 23 and he was deemed extremely critical.

The Rajya Sabha today (19 September) passed a legislation tabled by Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan which provides for up to five years of jail term for those attacking the doctors and healthcare workers who are pursuing the national effort against COVID-19 from the front.
The punishment was a part of the Epidemics Diseases (Amendment) Bill, 2020 which had been approved by the Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi as an ordinance in April to protect the healthcare service personnel and property, including their living and working premises against any violence during epidemics.
