Is IGJF Preparing to Take on Corruption in the Hills?

Darjeeling’s political circles are abuzz with speculation after recent developments surrounding the Indian Gorkha Janshakti Front (IGJF). With growing public discontent over alleged corruption in ruling governance and mounting frustration among youth and civic groups, the question now arises Will IGJF position itself as the vanguard of a corruption-free movement in the hills?

Party insiders remain tight-lipped, but whispers suggest that strategic discussions are underway. Observers believe this could mark a turning point in the region’s political discourse, as the demand for clean governance and accountability gains momentum.

For now, the public is watching closely to see if IGJF will take a definitive stand against the entrenched system of corruption that many say has held back progress in the hills.

We Gorkhas will not stay quiet anymore.

😡The same people now asking for justice were the ones who called us and our elders vulgar names and said “Go back to Nepal,” and treated us like we don’t belong in India. 😡

Back then, you did not speak up for us. No letters, no peace talks — just silence. 😶

But now, when hate comes to their door, they talk about law and fairness?
⚖️ You can’t ask for justice after ignoring it when it was our turn.

👊🏽 We are Gorkhas — not invisible, not less, and we will not stay quiet anymore.
Our voices will be heard, and we won’t let unfairness win!

Let us all give them answers.

Press Release
Subject: Legal Action Prepared Regarding Rising Water Levels of the Teesta River and Flooding Caused by Dams

Darjeeling, 2nd August 2025

The Indian Gorkha Janashakti Front (IGJF) has expressed serious concern over the rising water levels of the Teesta River, which have been causing recurring and devastating floods in Darjeeling and surrounding areas.

In earlier years, the Teesta used to flow nearly 200 feet below the road level. However, the river has now risen to such an extent that even normal rainfall causes flooding, damaging roads and nearby villages. The primary cause of this situation is the excessive silt accumulation due to dams constructed by companies like NHPC.

NHPC reportedly earns around ₹600–₹700 crores annually from two dams, yet provides no benefits to the people of this region. Instead, the local population is left to suffer the worsening effects of flooding each year.

The IGJF is now preparing to file a petition with the National Green Tribunal (NGT), demanding legal accountability from the companies operating these dams. The petition will seek mandatory desiltation and excavation work, along with the implementation of alternative solutions.

We will no longer tolerate this injustice. This is about our lives, our river, and our future.

Central Office, IGJF
P. Kothi,
Darjeeling.
