Goooddd morningggg and wishing all of you a wonderful Janmaashtami! ‘Beat’ the Monday ‘Blues’ 😝 with our peppy, vibrant and energetic Raas as we celebrate Kṛṣṇa ❤️🙏

Here is a one minute excerpt from "Krishnam Vande Jagat Gurum" of The Narasimhacharis (originally choreographed in 1980) performed as a short segment at our 50th year (Golden Jubilee) celebrations “Swarnaanjali” in August 2019. It speaks of the magical and mystical Krishna, who not only appears to be exclusively with each Gopika but is also seen playing the flute standing in the centre of the mandala, making one wonder whether there is anything that is not Krishna! ❤️🙏 May the energy from this Raas set the mood for the rest of the week! Have a fantastic week ahead!

Credits for Raas segment:
Vocals: Srikanth Anna &
Rhythm: Ganapathy anna &
Flute: Sruti Sagar
Musical Arrangement & Sound engineering:
Recorded at RESOUND INDIA
Special thanks to for their invaluable creatives
Beautiful gopikas of Vrindavan
The Krishnas in the Raas segment are the very talented Abhjith, Sanath, Arun, Siva, Madhu and Vishnu. .subramaniam.946

Quote of the Day

Goooddd morningggg ❤️🙏 and here is a beautiful quote coming your way!

Before you talk, Listen
Before you react, Think
Before you criticize, Wait
Before you pray, Forgive
Before you quit, Try.

- William Arthur Ward

The line “Before you pray, Forgive” took me to another beautiful quote from T.N.Wright’s “The Lord and His Prayer” and I wanted to share that too: “Forgiveness is like the air in your lungs. There’s only room for you to inhale the next lungful when you’ve just breathed out the previous one. If you insist on withholding it, refusing to give someone else the kiss of life they may desperately need, you won’t be able to take any more in yourself, and you will suffocate very quickly. When we are open, able and willing to forgive, we are also open to receiving love and forgiveness. But if we are locked up, it will be locked up to the other. This is a hard lesson to learn.”

Hope you enjoyed today’s dose of dance!
Have a beautiful Sunday and week ahead ❤️🙏

An absolute joy curating and sharing my crazy creative ideas 😅🙏❤️through the Natya Katha workshop. These beautiful people came together for a truly beautiful cause- to support folk artistes in need ❤️🙏 Thank you Nrityangana] for making me a part of this wonderful initiative. Good luck for all your future endeavors 🙏❤️

Posted • Nrityangana] "Dance as the narration of a magical story; that recites on lips, illuminates imaginations and embraces the most sacred depths of souls."
- Shah Asad Rizvi.

Lasya Mavillapalli's dance flows like poetry. It touches you in hidden ways and reminds you of the sanctity of art. In a fun filled 2 hour session with Nrityangana, Lasya ma'am helped us reconnect with a part of our soul through dance. The workshop captured different contours of Natya and was nothing short of a magnificent experience.
Our family is extremely honored to have learned from the best and we shall forever be indebted to Lasya ma'am for the kindness and grace with which she accepted our invitation and presented her art.
We thank you from the core of our hearts.❤️

August 19th 2015 is the day my father passed on and I assure you this is no emotional post! Just look at my old man in the video… our ‘Master’! ❤️🙏 It was during one of our final rehearsals before we premiered “A Landscape of Emotions”, a 2 hour production with over 150 dancers, based on the concept of Ainthinai from Sangam poetry.

He was such a beautiful human being! A rare kind of generous with a heart full of love, super kind (also super strict 🙄) with a completely mad sense of humor, wild, crazy, free spirited, wild (just had to repeat that one😅😝) and so much more but you already know all that and today I’m only in the mood to say mad things about Nanna!!! 😜❤️🙏

Most of our final rehearsals were professionally recorded for future reference. You can see the cameras being set up, sound check happening, giving last minute instructions to us students while my mother must be levitating somewhere with her 10 hands out, doing 100 different things 😅😝! This video (that’s edited) is one of those beautiful memories of our Master that puts a big smile on everyone’s face! 😃

Video Credit: our aasthaana gang-leader 😝Smt. (neethane di video eduthe? 🤔)❤️😘 who had shared this on our WhatsApp group a few weeks after Master passed on. She’s the one going “Master Master!”egging him on to do more! That’s and Vijaykumar dancing along! 😅🙏

That night, when I saw this video, I laughed madly and cried inconsolably all at once! It was totally worth it. ❤️🙏

Quote of the Day

“Find your fire and do not be afraid to burn bridges that deserve to fall.”
- R.H.Sin

For the most part, the advise “never burn bridges” can be considered good advice but there are exceptions to every rule!!!! Some bridges desperately need to be burnt. For your own sake, you need to take a stand. Don’t be stuck in fear. Don’t be afraid to burn those bridges that lead you back to nowhere. There are some situations where cutting off the connection is the best thing possible. Respect yourself enough to walk away from anything that no longer serves you or grows you. May the bridges you burn today light the way for a better tomorrow. ❤️🙏 🔥

My heart bleeds for the people of Afghanistan… for its women and children. It’s horrifying…what they are going through. I feel so helpless watching the news.
🙏 Prayers that we don’t let our own kind down in their darkest hour 🙏

Quote of the Day

Starting the week with a simple quote! Thought of posting this in the morning and just found some moments of silence in all of today’s chaos!

“The quieter you become, the more you can hear.” - Rumi

There, in the deep and intense silence within, words stop and meaning begins. (This could also make a good quote no?! 😝)

Here’s wishing us all a week filled with precious moments of silence filled with meaningful discoveries and progress!!! ❤️🙏

Have an amazing week ahead.

“The supreme end is the freedom of the spirit.” - Sri Aurobindo

I was introduced to the world of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother at the age of 8. I had sketched this in August, 1996… 25 years ago! My father had it framed and it’s been in our pooja ever since.

Born on 15th August 1872, Sri Aurobindo was a versatile genius- a great poet, a profound thinker, scholar and a flaming patriot who was a pivotal force in awakening the country to the need for independence. To him, India was not just a piece of land, not merely a collection of people. He revered it as a conscious Spiritual Being. India to him was a living form of the Divine Mother.

Looking forward to today’s fun filled interaction with college students of Nrityangana (The Indian Dance Society of Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi) exploring the idea of storytelling through dance 🙏 Always such a joy learning and exchanging ideas with young, passionate and artistic minds.

Thank you Nrityangana for inviting me to be a part of your fundraiser workshop in collaboration with Kalamandir NGO. Kalamandir is dedicated to the upliftment of rural tribal communities and works untiringly toward supporting their art and culture. 🙏

Quote of the Day

“Life is like a coin. Pleasure and pain are the two sides. Only one side is visible at a time. But remember, the other side is also waiting for it’s turn.”

A very ‘dance-able’ quote! I just did what came to my head but it can be explored in so many ways! Dance opens up infinite possibilities and interpretations and I suppose, the one that comes spontaneously to you, makes you “you”. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I realized I’m terrible at tossing an actual coin… the imaginary one made me look so much better! 😝😅 Will share the BTS bloopers another time 😜😂😁 I look like I’m catching a fly! 🪰👏🤣🤭 And if you want to know which side it was…. welllll… any guesses?😅😝😂

Hope these crazy daily doses are more of a pleasure than a pain to watch 😝😅 Have a wonderful Sunday everyone and as always I’m ever grateful for all the love and support you shower on me! ❤️🙏

SIMHAM & PARTY
Episode 26: The Sun, Moon and a Star
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Koti Surya Prakash Rao, brilliant, hardworking and a double Gold Medalist in Chemistry & Mathematics, belonged to the Ramayanam family. His grandfather was a pandit whose exemplary narration of the great epic Ramayana earned their vamsam the name Ramayanam (Lineage of the Sun).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Indira Devi, 15, class topper, gifted singer & violinist, belonged to the Vennelakanti family. Legend goes that Indira’s ancestor, a great poet & the king’s favorite in the Reddy Rajulu times, walked into court on Amavasya/new moon day, after shaving his head. When the king questioned this contempt of court, the poet stated in all humility that if Devi (Divine Mother) had allowed it, then it must be Pournami/full moon! This angered the king who warned him of dire consequences if he didn’t see the moon tonight. The poet prayed to Devi Sri Vidya & Lo & behold! the moon made a special appearance to validate his faith! The King sang in divine ecstasy “Aha! Kanti kadha vennela?” Vennelakanti- I saw the moon!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
At Indira & Prakasa Rao’s “pelli choopulu”- a formal matchmaking ritual- over 50 curious relatives squeezed into a tiny room. Indira managed to catch a glimpse of Prakasa Rao’s feet while Prakasa Rao complained he cudn’t see the girl’s face as it was hidden behind the excessive jasmines on her thick long braid! “U will be looking at eachother for the rest of ur lives anyway. There’s no hurry!” decided a toothless elderly woman who was now happily using the edge of Prakasa Rao’s dhoti to clean her small mortar & pestle that routinely crushed betel nuts! Everyone laughed out so loud that a startled Indira stood up, giving Prakasa Rao a fair view of his petite bride-to-be. Indira’s porcelain skin turned a beetroot red.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A few years later, Indira & Prakasa Rao had their first child, a beautiful daughter. “Vasantha is my favorite ragam” said Indira looking at her baby cradled in her arms & a teary eyed Prakasa Rao added “Mana inti Lakshmi.” The baby cooed.

What they didn’t know then was that, in the quiet of night, in a small house in Kanigiri, a star was born. Vasanthalakshmi.❤️

SIMHAM & PARTY
EPISODE 25
Kili Josiyam (Parrot Tarot)

The last one year as a “Pupil-Teacher” at Kalakshetra was an exciting one! All learning put to practice and more practice coupled with more learning... it was just how Simham imagined it to be! He had worked under several of his teachers, scheduling, organizing, preparing, rehearsing... it was a busy end of the year.

During summer holidays, when Kalakshetra was closed & Simham had finished his training, Jaya teacher had summoned him to her house without any notice. She had sent word through her nephew asking Simham to pack his bags and leave immediately. He was to accompany Richard Tan (the first Singaporean citizen of Chinese origin to have learnt Bharatanatyam at Kalakshetra) to Madurai. Richard was an ardent devotee of Meenakshi Amman & he wished to dance in her sannidhi. Richard said “Simma I don’t have money to pay you la but I wish to offer my first performance at Amman’s feet” 🙏 “Priceless!” smiled Simham.

After the performance at the Meenakshi Amman Temple, an overjoyed Richard hugged his ‘Simma’ for managing exceptionally well through Richard’s forgetfulness during the performance! “Simma! What would I do without ur memory la!” he said teary eyed! “Good for U that it was Meenakshi Devi who was watching U & not Rukmini Devi!”😝 Simham quipped! As they walked down the beautiful pillared corridors of the temple one could hear Richard’s voice echo “Our next performance is at the Children’s Garden School in Madras. Should we just stick to Manavi varnam there also?”
“If U promise not to keep looking at me for cues” winked Simham & they both shared a hearty laugh! So, Children’s Garden School it was!

It is believed that the fish nourish their young by merely looking at them; and the mere glance of this fish-eyed Goddess Meenakshi seemed to be changing the course of Simham’s destiny. What plans did She have up Her sleeve for Simham? Maybe the parrot on Her shoulder (a symbol of the God of Love) could foretell what’s in store for him?! Kili Josiyam anyone? 🦜😝❤️

Here begins Simham & Party Season 2.
Are you ready to fall in love with this love story!❤️

QUOTE OF THE DAY

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“We are travelers on a cosmic journey, stardust, swirling and dancing in the eddies and whirlpools of infinity. Life is eternal. We have stopped for a moment to encounter each other, to meet, to love, to share. This is a precious moment. It is a little parenthesis in eternity.”
Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Wanted to try differing speeds while exploring this particular quote from The Alchemist. Life is a constantly changing phenomenon offering us harmony in all the frenzy and sending us into a frenzy to find that harmony. 😅🤷🏻‍♀️🙏 Thought you wouldn’t mind something heavy (a deeply inspiring 59 seconds) for the weekend! I love this book and this quote in particular.

సంక్రాంతి శుభాకాంక్షలు
பொங்கல் நல் வாழ்த்துக்கள்
Wishing you all an auspicious Pongal! 🙏
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Mallari played in this video is by Nadaswaram Exponents and Padmashree awardees- Sheik Mahaboob Subhani and his wife Kaleeshabi Mahaboob. The incredible transformation of Mahaboob Subhani from working as a clerk in a to***co company in Andhra Pradesh to becoming a world renowned artiste is a truly inspiring one! No less inspiring is his wife Kaleeshabi’s artistic journey that broke orthodox attitudes that discouraged women from taking up artistic professions.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Nadaswaram/Nagaswaram is a ‘mangala vaadyam’, an auspicious instrument and the Mallari is a unique piece of music traditionally played on the Nadaswaram when the presiding deity of a temple is taken on procession. Mallaris come in varied forms and talams with no saahithyam/lyrics and are generally set in raagam Gambheera Nattai. This one is set to Khanda Jati Triputa Talam (). As always, after editing the video, I searched for music I could use and I am so grateful that it fit perfectly into the celebratory mood we wanted to bring to you today!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A very happy birthday to and a BIG Thank You for helping me with this. We finished another shoot yesterday morning and I was overwhelmed with work on the personal front. After we finished the shoot I said “Ganesh, I had thought of something simple for Pongal for my Daily Dose of Dance but I don’t think I’ll have the time to do it this time!” But he didn’t let me give up! He said “We are doing this right now!” and we quickly picked up a few things from Mylapore and put it all together! The day’s shoot ended with a wish fulfilled! ❤️🙏
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They say “தை பிறந்தால் வழி பிறக்கும்”! When the month of Tai arrives, so does the way forward! Couldn’t agree more! ❤️🙏

P:S: We owe the cow’s horns to my daughter’s water colour set! 😅🙏 just wanted to try something fun! hope you all like it!

Sushma has an absolutely stunning collection of jewellery and they are affordable too! The first time I met her was when she walked into my yoga studio in Chennai with her unmissable million dollar smile! I didn’t know she designed such exquisite jewellery until almost a year later when she was leaving Chennai! I have some gorgeous jhumkas, necklaces and pendants I picked up from If you are looking for classy, elegant, unique and affordable accessories ranging from the simple to the intricate, then you really should check out her collection! 🙏 I am wearing these stunning silver jhumkas with a peacock motif and hanging pearls! QUOTE OF THE DAY

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This Buddha quote is paraphrased from verse 122 of Dhammapada (Buddharakkhita translation). The verse in its entirety reads as follows:
Think not lightly of good, saying, “It will not come to me.” Drop by drop is the water pot filled. Likewise, the wise man, gathering it little by little, fills himself with good.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Putting just one drop of water at a time into the pot may seem insignificant but when done consistently, it fills the pot eventually. Similarly, gather the experience of goodness one moment at a time and fill your heart with gratitude.
Have a wonderful day! 🙏

This is the final celebrating Margazhi Mornings @ Mylapore with the magnificent and majestic Kapaleeshwarar Koil. This being an unplanned/impromptu idea and the fact that we weren’t allowed to shoot in many parts due to Covid protocols, we just wanted to capture the essence of Mylapore as we experienced it on a Margazhi morning. We could only shoot outside the eastern entrance of the temple, so I’m putting together some beautiful shots taken for this 30 second and final dose of dance in this series!🙏
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I am truly overwhelmed by your responses to this short “street art” video series as I’d like to call it 😂😝🙏Thank you all so much 🙏❤️ These simple ideas have felt so special by sharing it with all you lovely rasikas! Grateful to each and everyone of you for joining me and being a part of a creative space I deem sacred.
