Srinagar, 10 Feburary: In the picturesque valley of Sonamarg, amidst the majestic Himalayan ranges, the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIM and WS) is currently abuzz with the sounds of adventure as it hosts its annual skiing courses. Established in 1983, JIM and WS has been a beacon of adventure and skill development in India, thanks to a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Defence (GOI) and the Government of Jammu And Kashmir.
The institute's reputation precedes itself, renowned for its expertise in various adventure activities such as Mountaineering, Skiing, Trekking, Rescue Operations, Water Rafting, Paragliding, and Expeditions. Each year, approximately 1000 students from various parts of India flock to JIM and WS to nurture their talents and embrace the spirit of adventure and nation-building.
At present, JIM and WS is conducting skiing courses at Sonamarg, featuring the Basic Skiing Course No.63 with 69 students and the Intermediate Skiing Course with 23 students. What makes these courses even more remarkable is the diversity of their participants, hailing from states far and wide including Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Gujarat, Tripura, among others. Notably, these courses are offered at a fraction of the actual cost, thanks to funding from various government departments: 75% by MoD, 15% by MYAS, and 10% by the Jammu and Kashmir Government.
The primary aim of JIM and WS is to expose youth to the wonders of nature, ignite the spirit of adventure, and instill a sense of nationalism. This commitment was recently showcased through historic events hosted by the institute, including the Lidderwat Trail Run and the Unity Run, both of which attracted participants from across the valley and beyond, while also promoting local employment opportunities.

The process is simple, accessible, and inclusive, welcoming anyone aged 16 and above to be a part of this cultural phenomenon.
2. Video Submission Phase (From February 8, 2024):

Srinagar, 20 August: Amidst a backdrop of camaraderie, skill, and national pride, the final match of the highly anticipated URI Premier League jointly conducted by 12 Infantry Brigade and Team 360 took place. This electrifying event, attended by a crowd of almost 3000 enthusiastic cricket fans and locals, showcased not only the prowess of the participating teams but also the spirit of unity and sportsmanship that cricket fosters in the community.
The cricket tournament, which unfolded over several weeks, was a testament to the collaborative efforts of the Army and Team 360. The grand finale was held at Kalapahar Auditorium Ground that was adorned with national flags and a festive atmosphere. Excitement filled the air as fans eagerly awaited the showdown between Royal Cricket Club Jabla and Rising Salmabad.
The final match was a spectacle that showcased remarkable displays of batting, bowling, and fielding skills. The General Officer Commanding was in fact the Pioneer of the tournament while he was the Commanding Officer of the Kathi Battalion. Srinagar, 21 Feburary: Indian Army at J&K's GUREZ observed 21 Feburary 2023 as the Mother Language Day. Languages are the most powerful instruments of preserving and developing our heritage.
Aim of observing the Mother language day was to promote the dissemination of mother tongues which will serve not only to encourage linguistic diversity and multilingual education but also to develop fuller awareness of linguistic and cultural traditions throughout the world and to inspire solidarity based on understanding, tolerance and dialogue.
To achieve greater awareness, the day was observed with Shina poetry and Dard's songs by locals of Dawar at Log Hut. The event was also observed by AGS Student's on online platform by recitation of Shina poems & songs on native language. similar program were conducted through out Gurez valley at Kanzalwan, Niru & Baraub.
The initiative of Indian Army was appreciated by the locals and this event will go a long way in preservation and promotion of the culture and unique lifestyle of Gurez.
