University of Arizona astronomers have identified a 3-million-light-year-long galactic filament from the early universe using the James Webb Space Telescope. The study also examined eight quasars and their influence on star formation, providing insights into the assembly and growth of supermassive black holes.

This black hole is less massive compared to any others previously found in the early universe.

The galaxy housing this black hole, named CEERS 1019, has been in existence for over 570 million years since the occurrence of the Big Bang and it sheds light on the origins of our own galaxy, the Milky Way. The black hole has been estimated to have formed approximately 570 million years after the Big Bang. This breakthrough allows scientists to gain further insights into the formation and development of galaxies.

French startup NukkAI’s bridge champ, named NooK, represents a different kind of AI from the deep learning neural networks which currently power self-driving cars, unlock smartphones with your face, and dominate in strategy games like go. ⁠

While these AIs are capable of delivering results for complex problems, there’s a catch: we don’t know how they do it. ⁠
⁠
They are a black box. NooK takes a different tack. Called neurosymbolic AI, it combines deep learning with more traditional AI approaches to create algorithms with deep learning strengths that, essentially, can show their work.⁠

The billionaire entrepreneur and founder of Tesla and SpaceX is reportedly working on a new project to create an artificial intelligence chatbot that can rival ChatGPT, the popular conversational agent developed by OpenAI.

Musk, who left OpenAI in 2018 over disagreements with its direction, has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with ChatGPT and its ‘woke’ tendencies. He has hired Igor Babuschkin, a former researcher at Google’s DeepMind AI unit, to lead the development of the alternative chatbot.

Following the most severe known mass extinction in Earth’s history, vibrant marine ecosystems may have recovered within just a million years. That’s millions of years faster than previously thought. The evidence, which lies in a diverse trove of pristine fossils discovered near the city of Guiyang in South China, may represent the early foundations of today’s ocean-dwelling ecosystems.

The conventional story was that the ocean was kind of dead for millions of years after this mass extinction, says paleontologist Peter Roopnarine of the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, who was not involved in the research. “Well, that’s not true. The ocean [was] very much alive.”

The Great Dying, or Permian-Triassic mass extinction, occurred around 251.9 million years ago, at the end of the Permian Period, after a series of massive volcanic eruptions.

What if you fall into a Black Hole? 🤔🕵️🔭✨ Stepping through the Event Horizon you still see complete darkness below your feet and the universe far above. The light that has already fallen into the Black Hole cannot come back and reach your eyes and in fact you would not see the light from your own feet or indeed your own nose. Being a little more specific for you, it would be as if your body no longer existed, you would feel like two immersed eyes falling into darkness. But something strange starts to happen... Light that falls on the event horizon after you still moves at the speed of light relative to you. So if you look up if that even makes sense at this point.. you still see the universe from the outside. In an ideal non-rotating Black Hole you would simply go to the center of it until the difference in gravitational force between different parts of your body would tear you apart and this is called "Spaghetification". But fortunately, this Black Hole where we are entering has rotation and that changes things a lot because as we walk to the center of the Black Hole the rest of the universe becomes bluer and is concentrated in a smaller region of our vision and as a result of that the darkness grows around us around.
