*ED summons former JK CM Farooq Abdullah in money laundering case*

New Delhi, May 27: National Conference (NC) president and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah has been summoned by the ED for questioning in a money laundering case in Delhi on May 31, official sources said on Friday.

The questioning is reported to be in connection with a case of alleged financial irregularities in the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) that is being probed by the federal agency.

The summon has been issued under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) for appearance at its headquarters here on May 31.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had in 2020 attached assets worth Rs 11.86 crore of Abdullah in this case.

The 84-year-old NC patron has been questioned by the ED a number of times in the case.

The ED had alleged that Abdullah "misused" his position as the president of the JKCA in the past and made appointments in the sports body so that the BCCI sponsored funds could be laundered.–(PTI)

*Yasin Malik Gets Lifer, Rs 10 Lakh Penalty*

Srinagar, May 25: The NIA court in New Delhi on Wednesday sentenced JKLF chairman Yasin Malik to “two life imprisonments”, according to the reports from news channels.

Malik, who had last week told the court that he was not contesting the charges levelled against him, has been imposed over Rs 10 lakh fine. All the sentences will run concurrently.

The court had earlier convicted Yasin Malik for offences punishable under sections 120B IPC, 121 IPC, 121A IPC, 13 UAPA r/w 120B IPC, 15 UAPA r/w 120B IPC, 17 UAPA, 18 UAPA, 20 UAPA, 38 UAPA and 39 UAPA.(GNS)

*Srinagar, May 20*
In a significant development, the delimitation commission’s order on Jammu & Kashmir’s electoral segments has come into effect from Friday as the Government of India issued a notification in this regard.

The Union Ministry of Law and Justice on Friday issued a notification declaring May 20 as the date on which the order of the delimitation commission shall come into effect.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-sections (2) and (3) of section 62 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 (34 of 2019), the Central Government hereby appoints the 20th day of May, 2022, as the date on which the orders of the Delimitation Commission, Order No. 1, dated the 14th March, 2022 and Order No. 2, dated the 5th May, 2022, published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3, Sub-section (iii), vide numbers O.N. 6(E), dated the 14th March, 2022, and O.N. 17 (E), dated the 05th May, 2022, respectively, shall take effect,” reads the notification, a copy of which is in possession of news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO)

Under The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, the Central government is empowered to notify a date from which the order of delimitation commission shall come into effect.

Ramban Tunnel Collapse: Ten Persons Still Trapped, Chances Of Survival Slim

One Among 3 Rescued Shifted To GMC Jammu, 2 Others Admitted In SDH Ramban

Jammu, May 20 Around ten labourers are missing, mostly non-locals, and three others have been rescued after an under-construction tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar highway in Ramban district collapsed last night. As per the officials, the chances of survival of the trapped persons remain “slim” as the debris is “all-around”.

Officials told that a joint rescue operation was launched immediately after a portion of the tunnel at Khoni nallah collapsed on Thursday night.

“At around 10.15 pm (on May 19), the Ajit tunnel of T3 caved-in, near Khooni Nallah Ramban, trapping more than a dozen labourers of Sarla Company working at the site,” the officials said.

A police officer told that three persons were rescued and were shifted to district hospital Ramban wherefrom one of them— Vishnu Gola (33) Jharkhand has been referred to GMS Jammu for advanced treatment.

“Rescue operation is still going on,” the officer said, adding, “It is likely to take more time as rock breakers are being used to create space for reaching the trapped persons.” Asked about the possibility of the survival of the trapped, the officer said that nothing can be said with surety. “Rescue is on and hopefully we will reach them soon.”

Deputy Commissioner Ramban, alongwith DIG, SSP Ramban and Project Director NHAI and representatives of Construction Company are at the spot, officials said.

Deputy Commissioner Ramban Masrat-ul-Islam told that company officials have informed that ten persons are missing persons.

Asked about the wellbeing of the missing persons, he said that “nothing can be said as of now”.

“The length of the tunnel is around 3 meters only and whether they are inside it or outside the tunnel area is not specifically known also. Debris is all-around. There are chances of suffocation also,” he said, adding, “the rescue operation has been going on since 12 a.m. He said it a “delicate operation” as far as vulnerability is concerned. “Shooting stones are continuously happening and even heavy machinery cannot be employed given the fact that shooting stones fall continuously.”

The missing persons have been identified as Jadav Roy (23), Gautam Roy(22), Sudhir Roy(31), Dipak Roy (33), Parimal Roy (38), all from West Bengal, Shiva Chowhn (26) from Assam, Nawaraj Chowdhury (26) and Kushi Ram (25), both from Nepal, Muzaffar (38) and Israt (30), both locals. (GNS)
