Ice cream man of India, Raghunandan Kamath, the founder of Natural Ice Cream, passed away at age 70.

Born to a mango vendor in a village in Mangaluru, Kamath went on to establish Naturals, an ice cream parlour estimated to be worth Rs 400 crore today.

A young 14-year-old Kamath boarded a train from Mangalore and came to Mumbai. After working at his brother’s restaurant, Kamath had an idea — if ice creams have fruit flavours, why can’t they have real fruits. He decided to fill this void in the market. But unsure of whether customers would come, he began his business with serving pav-bhaji as the main dish and the ice cream as an add on.

His first ice cream parlour was launched in 1984 in Juhu, with the initial menu featuring around 12 flavours.

Kamath is survived by his wife and two sons, including Siddhant, the director of Naturals.

With reference to our previous post where we had appealed people to help with food for cows at Goshala.

Social activist Santosh Darekar had taken the initiative and many good Samaritans came forward to help.
Today NCC students of BK model college contributed 10 bags of animal feed to Muppin Kaad Siddheshwar Swami math located at Shivapur Belagavi.

This year due to intense summers there is acute shortage of water and cattle food hence request people to contact Santosh Darekar on 9986809825 to offer any help.

The sight of sweet marts, kirana shops, and local street carts is swamped by 'Gathis' or garlands of sweet candies, reminding us that Gudi Padva is around the corner.

Markets are full of these colorful 'Gathis' which are very important during the auspicious festival tomorrow. Also known as Battasha haar, these are made by boiling sugar to a level that it dissolves. The scum generated during the process is removed and the liquid is poured into molds of required shapes.

It is believed that Brahma created the universe on Gudi Padva, hence it marks the beginning of the Hindu calendar. People raise Gudi on top of their house to invite prosperity and good luck on this auspicious day.

These Battasha haar (sugar garlands) are tied to the Gudi, hence they play an important role.

On Occasion of World Water Day today, Shri Salasar Satsang Parivar Belagavi has started Jal Seva Kendra at Central Bus Stand (CBT) near platform no 11.

Clean, hygiene and cold drinking water will be served to all for FREE.
Two people have been appointed to serve water to people, keep the stock, check for wastage and maintain cleanliness. The water will be served in steel glasses and there will be no use of plastic. The Free water initiative will go on for the entire summer.

Belagavi is truly blessed with such organisations who come up with noble initiatives at times of need.

Bengaluru:
In the midst of severe water crises, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewage Board (BWSSB) has instructed hotels and commercial establishments to not use Cauvery water and borewell water for rain dance and pool side parties during Holi. However there are NO restrictions on playing Holi at home.

Bengaluru requires 2600 million litres of water per day out of which 1470 million litres is sourced from the Cauvery river and 650 million litres from the borewells. Bengaluru has 14000 borewells out of which 6900 have dried up, leading to a deficit of 500 million litres per day.

In order to reduce the demand of potable water, the BWSSB had earlier banned the use of drinking water for washing cars, swimming pools, gardening, road maintenance and construction, building construction among other activities. BWSSB had also announced a fine of Rs 5,000 for violators and an additional Rs 500 every day for repeated violations.

Zomato launches PURE VEG mode along with a Pure Veg fleet for customers who have a 100% vegetarian dietary preference.

Pure Veg Mode will consist of a curation of restaurants that serve only pure vegetarian food, and will exclude all restaurants which serve any non-veg food item.

The dedicated Pure Veg Fleet will only serve orders from these pure veg restaurants. This means that a non-veg meal, or even a veg meal served by a non-veg restaurant will never go inside the green delivery box meant for the Pure Veg Fleet.

Latest update: Zomato rolls back the decision of delivering veg food in green uniform. They will deliver the pure veg food in the same red uniform. The roll back comes after backlash for discriminating.
