Belagavi excise officials Tuesday evening seized Goa liquor worth Rs 10 lakh raiding a lorry on the Pune-Bengaluru NH748. The truck that came from Goa was heading to poll-bound Telangana. The driver of the truck has been arrested. What is interesting is the fact that the liquor was being transported concealed inside the empty transformer boxes.

Excise raid today in Belagavi...

BM Bureau: Today at 5:30 PM, Dr. Vai Manjunath, the Deputy Commissioner for Abkari in Belgaum, along with Abkari Commissioners Firoz Khan Kiladari, E.M. Abkari Joint Commissioners Raveendra Hosalli and Murugod, Upa Abkari Deputy Commissioners, Ravindra Hosalli, Mallesh Uppar, and the team, intercepted a Tata lorry bearing registration number MH 43 VY 2976 near the NH4 toll booth at Hire Bagewadi, smuggling illicitly 250 bundles concealed within two electric transformers from Goa state to Telangana state.

They had hidden and transported 5 different samples in the midst of a stack, with the intention to cross 2 electric transformers illegally.

They were using a GPS device for controlling the vehicle. Alleged offender Shriram Sudhakar Parde, a 31-year-old resident of Mumbai, Maharashtra, has been detained.

The total cost of the seizures is 30 lakhs, with the vehicle valued at 20 lakhs, and the goods themselves at 10 lakhs. The accused has been remanded into judicial custody.

Silent awareness round in Belgaum city against human trafficking Belgaum - An awareness round was organized in Belgaum to prevent human trafficking.

A joint management of Women and Child Welfare Department, Movement India and Trilate Media, removed silent rounds in the city and read the abuse of women. This time, office bearers and students from various organizations in the city were present in large numbers. The rate of violence against women has increased. They are being pushed into prostitutions. Women are trafficking in large scale as Belgaum is on the border of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa. Awareness is being created in the village to control these types. According to the same, a silent awareness round was conducted against human trafficking in Belgaum city. Police officer Suleman Tashildar promoted the round by showing the flag. Silent awareness round started from Sardar High School ground, College Road, Channamma Chowk, Kakati Wes Road, Saturn Khut, Khadebazar, Kirloskar Road, Dharmaveer Sambhaji Chowk.

The Belagavi forest department officials have successfully apprehended a notorious tiger poacher, known as Chikka or Krishna Patlepawar, hailing from Madhya Pradesh. This significant arrest took place on Friday, marking a major breakthrough in the fight against wildlife crimes.

Chikka stands accused of multiple forest offenses in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Specifically, he is alleged to have engaged in the illegal hunting of a tiger and a sloth bear in Maharashtra last year. Forest officials are currently working diligently to extract crucial details regarding his criminal activities.

Interestingly, the Belagavi forest department officials, who were initially investigating a sandalwood theft case that occurred in July at Khanapur territorial forest, unexpectedly crossed paths with Chikka. He was found hiding in a tent near Kanabargi, situated on the outskirts of Belagavi city.

During the subsequent interrogation, Chikka confessed to his involvement in various forest offenses. Furthermore, the officials managed to recover sandalwood logs and other equipment utilized for animal poaching from his possession.

Deputy Conservator of Forests, Manjunath Chavan, emphasized the ongoing interrogation of Chikka to gather additional information about his participation in other cases. The officials are meticulously connecting the dots to ascertain whether he was also involved in poaching incidents within Karnataka.

Movements of winter session in Belgaum Suvarnasoudh

Belgaum - Karnataka Government has started discussion on whether to conduct this year's winter session to Belgaum or Bangalore. Meanwhile, movements have begun in the wake of filling winter session in Suvarnasoudh, Belgaum. Preparations for winter session have been started by the Public Works Department.
Tenders have been ordered for various works required for the session on behalf of the department. It is almost clear that this year's winter session will be held in Belgaum. After the assembly elections in five states in the country, the winter session is predicted in Belgaum in the first week of December.

BM Bureau: The Income Tax department has discovered a substantial sum of money in an apartment connected to R. Ambikapathy, who holds the position of president in the BBMP Contractors' Association and vice-president in the Karnataka Contractors' Association. The money was concealed beneath a bed inside more than 20 cardboard boxes, even though the contractor didn't reside there. It's worth noting that Ambikapathy played a notable role in the Karnataka Contractors' Association campaign, in which they alleged that kickbacks for State Government contracts had reached an astonishing "40% commission" during the previous BJP administration. On October 12, the Income Tax department initiated search and seizure operations against several prominent contractors in Karnataka.

A comprehensive survey has been conducted on the premises of the Belagavi Deputy Commissioner’s office in preparation for the construction of a six-storey building. Surrounding the building on all four sides will be two-lane roads, with an inviting park at the entrance. The proposed building plan has received approval, and the tender process will commence shortly. Officials from the PWD department have estimated that funds ranging from 100 to 150 crores will be required for this project.

Additionally, the Public Works Department has conducted a survey for the new Collectorate building. The existing structure, along with nearby buildings such as the British sub-registry office, will be demolished to make way for the new construction. The planned Collectorate building will span 145 meters in length and 71 meters in width, featuring six storeys, including a two-storey basement and four-storey offices.

The proposed project involves utilizing a portion of the expansive nine-acre Deputy Commissioner’s premises to build the new office, covering an impressive two acres. This strategic allocation will ensure ample space for essential amenities such as parking, a beautifully landscaped garden, and other necessary infrastructure.

Given the importance of the documents housed in the sub-registrar office, it is crucial to relocate and preserve them in a secure location. Sources within the sub-registration office have indicated that preparations are underway to facilitate this move. An alternate site is currently being sought, and measures to protect the documents have already been implemented. Unfortunately, it appears that some documents may have been lost due to a leak in the roof.

The entrance of the new building will face north, with a park and a two-lane road leading up to it. Additionally, two entrances will be established from the main road, one serving as the main entrance and the other connecting to the road leading to Chavat Galli from the rear. As part of the planned development, several buildings will be demolished. The land survey for this area has been conducted by officials from the PWD department. The building plan will be prepared accordingly, and the cost details will be submitted to the government for consideration.

A video of the Leopoard in the Golf Course area near Club Road which is elusive since over two weeks now has gone viral. A group of yougsters who were entering Belagavi during wee hours on Monday saw the leopard running on the side of Club Road. The leopard later crossed the Club Road and vanished in the trees towards the other side.
