In a shocking incident, a 24-year-old man died from internal injuries after his friend inserted the nozzle of a blow dryer into his re**um “for fun” in Bengaluru on Monday. The man died of severe damage to his intestines and a ruptured colon after his abdomen expanded from the pressure of the dryer. The deceased has been identified as Yogesh, who was a native of Vijayapura. On Monday, he visited a bike service centre to get his bike washed. His friend, Murali, who worked there, washed his bike and then aimed the powerful electric blow dryer - used for drying vehicles - jokingly at Yogesh.
He first aimed at Yogesh's face and back before inserting it into his re**um for "amusement", the India Today reported. The jestful exchange between the friends turned awry when Yogesh's abdomen expanded from the pressure and his colon ruptured. He collapsed at the spot and was rushed to the hospital, where he received emergency surgery.
However, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after. Doctors found that Yogesh had also sustained severe damage to his intestines. The incident occurred in Bengaluru’s Sampigehalli area. Accordingly, the Sampigehalli Police have registered a case in the matter under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which relates to culpable homicide, the report said. Murali, 25 years old, has been arrested in connection with the case.

This is Swaminarayan Akshardham, a colossal Hindu temple in Delhi built with marble and limestone and covered in thousands of sculptures.

But this is not an ancient temple — it is less than twenty years old.
It was funded by private donations and built by a mix of volunteers and artisans.

The temple's design comes from ancient Hindu texts regarding art and architecture — the Shilpa and Vastu Shastras — and its structure is entirely stone, with no iron or steel.

In a bid to promote mass transport systems, companies in Bengaluru are providing financial incentives to their employees if they use public transit during their commute to work. On the other hand, they are also charging an additional amount for parking if employees use single-occupancy private vehicles to get to work. Bengaluru is infamous for its traffic congestions, and it seems that the city's IT industry is chipping in by taking initiative and trying to promote car pooling to ease vehicular flow.

Employers are pushing for “sustainable transportation solutions” to combat the city's well known commute issues, The Economic Times reported. The report listed names of Multinational Corporations (MNCs) including NetApp, Mashreq Bank, TCS and Infosys, who have made commute a part of their employees' Key Result Area/Key Responsibility Area (KRA). The companies have started employee benefit programmes in the form of “transportation benefits”, especially in tech-heavy areas and recognised bottlenecks, it said. Some employers are also providing reimbursement for metro passes and shuttle services. Other initiatives include encouraging carpooling arrangements, preferential parking spots, monthly stipends etc

A 17-year-old girl, hailing from Bihar, allegedly died by su***de at her house, said police on Tuesday, adding that her 26-year-old husband was arrested in connection with the case, in Bengaluru Urban district of Karnataka. The girlhad arrived in Bengaluru just 20 days prior to the incident, said the police. According to the police, even though the incident took place on March 13, it was brought to the fore only recently. Hebbagodi police inspector Aiyanna Reddy said that the couple had gotten married in February, 2023 in Bihar.

“The accused had shifted to Bengaluru a year ago in search of employment and was working as a painter in Yeshwanthpur,” said the inspector.

Women and children welfare officer H K Asha Devi said: “As per initial probe, the victim died by su***de at their rented accommodation due to distress caused by the abuse resulting from the child marriage.”

“The police are suspecting that the husband tortured her for physical intimacy due to which she took the extreme step,” said Devi. “Based on a complaint from the district child rights protection officials, we have arrested the accused and booked him under the Child Protection Act, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso), and Section 306 (abetment to su***de) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC),” inspector Reddy said.

“The accused was produced before the Anekal JMFC (judicial magistrate first class) court, which remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days,” Reddy said.

“We got a tip-off that a minor has allegedly died by su***de, after which we informed the police. We are contacting the Bihar Child Protection Unit to provide counselling to the parents of the deceased,” Devi added.

The body was handed over to family members after an autopsy, Reddy said.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Tuesday said the JD(S) was committing su***de by fielding former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda’s son-in-law Dr C N Manjunath on a BJP ticket. The BJP gave a ticket to the renowned cardiologist and the retired director of state-owned Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research. He will fight the election against Shivakumar’s brother and three-time MP D K Suresh.

Referring to Kumaraswamy’s statement that the JD(S) did not need an alliance with the BJP to contest in two seats, Shivakumar said, “I expected this. The JDS is embarrassed by the alliance with the BJP.” Speaking to reporters here, Shivakumar added, "The BJP has been doing this to its partners in other states too. It is their internal matter, let them decide." He said the JD(S) is committing su***de by fielding Dr Manjunath on a BJP ticket.

Asked about plans to induct BJP MP and former chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda into Congress, he said, “It is natural for politicians to contest elections for another party when they are denied a ticket. We will take in anyone who joins the party, accepting Congress party ideology.” Asked specifically if Sadananda Gowda would be given a Congress ticket he said, “I can’t comment on that.”

In the meantime, there is no stay on the grant of citizenship even as some of the petitioners pressed for it.

During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the government, told a bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud that he needed some time to respond to the 20 applications which have sought a stay on the Rules till the apex court disposes of the petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019. "It (CAA) does not take away citizenship of any person," Mehta told the bench, also comprising Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, PTI reported.

On March 11, the Centre notified the CAA rules four years after the law was passed by Parliament. The CAA aims to confer Indian citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim migrants--including Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians--who migrated from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan and arrived in India before December 31, 2014.

Several opposition parties have criticised the CAA, calling it ‘discriminatory’, ‘communal’ and ‘anti-constitutional’.

On the other hand, the Modi government maintains that nobody's citizenship will be taken away due to CAA. “I have spoken on CAA at least 41 times on different platforms and spoken on it in detail that the minorities of the country need not be afraid because it has no provision to take back the rights of any citizen,” Union home minister Amit Shah had said in an interview to ANI. “The CAA aims to confer Indian citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim migrants--including Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians--who migrated from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan and arrived in India before December 31, 2014, and through this law, their sufferings can be ended,” the minister had added.

105 meters (344 feet)..... Yes, that's the height of this Hindu Temple. Taller than the Qutub minar (72 m ) in Delhi. Yet most of the people especially the Indians aren't even aware of this temple & this beautiful City Orchha, Madhyapradesh.

🔸 Built by the Queen of Orchha, Ganeshkuwari Devi, this temple is known as Chaturbhuj Temple, dedicated to Sri Ram the Avatar of Sri Vishnu. The name Chaturbhuj is a combination of 'chatur' meaning "four" and 'bhuj' meaning "arms" which literally translates to "one who has four arms" and refers to Rama an Avatar of Vishnu. The temple was constructed by the Bundela Rajputs of the kingdom of Orchha in 16 th century. The temple is noted for having one of the tallest Vimana among Hindu temples standing at 344 feet.

15/03/2024

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday released its second list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. For Karnataka, it announced candidates for 20 out of 28 seats. The list includes a former chief minister, a member of the Mysuru Royal family, and a prominent cardiologist who happens to be the son-in-law of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda.

The BJP has deferred the announcement of five candidates from Chitradurga, Belagavi, Uttara Kannada, Chikkaballapur, and Raichur parliamentary constituencies.

Among the notable figures in the second list are former Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai who will be contesting from Haveri. It is currently represented by BJP’s Shivkumar Udasi. Earlier, senior BJP leader KS Eshwarappa had sought this seat for his son. Bommai expressed confidence in the support from people of Haveri and Gadak, aiming to continue the BJP’s success in the region.

“People of Haveri and Gadak have shown me a lot of love. I have represented both districts in my political career. I am confident that how people have supported BJP for the past three terms, they will support fulfilling the dream of seeing prime minister Modi in power once again,” said Bommai.

In a notable change, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar from the Mysuru Royal family will represent the Mysuru constituency, replacing Pratap Simha.

Simha, who had earlier spoken against Wadiyar, on Wednesday wished him soon after the list was announced. He also asked supporters to take the BJP’s decision in their stride and said, he owes all his success to prime minister Narendra Modi. Dr CN Manjunath, a cardiologist known for pioneering affordable healthcare at Jayadeva Hospital and the son-in-law of Deve Gowda, will contest from Bengaluru Rural Constituency as a BJP-JD(S) coalition candidate, challenging the only sitting Congress MP, DK Suresh.

Manjunath met BJP stalwart and former CM, BS Yediyurappa on Wednesday who declared that the celebrated doctor had joined the BJP.

“I have been an expert in the area of medicine. The pillars of the development are medicine, education, agriculture and science. So, I want to see how I can utilise my expertise being part of the government. Also, how I can show my expertise at a national level is a question that has been ahead of me. People have been asking me to enter politics for the same reason as well,” Manjunath said. A Vokkaliga leader Shobha Karandlaje has been moved to the Bengaluru North constituency, causing protests among the party workers. Former chief minister Sadananda Gowda, who previously contested this seat, has been removed after announcing his “retirement from electoral politics”. Shobha has been given the seat in Bengaluru North where the second largest community in the state has a large population. However, soon after the announcement protests were reported in Bengaluru North, where the party workers shouted “Go back Shobha” calling her an “outsider”.

Meanwhile, Nalin Kumar Kateel, a former BJP state president has also been dropped from the list, with Captain Brijesh Chowta contesting from Dakshina Kannada. Kateel has been facing anti-incumbency in his constituency, according to leaders. “I accept the party’s decision and wish the new candidate the best,” said Kateel after the announcement.

14/03/2024

Miffed after his son was denied a ticket for the Haveri-Gadag Lok Sabha seat, senior BJP leader KS Eshwarappa on Wednesday laid the blame on former chief minister and Lingayat stalwart BS Yediyurappa. Sulking after the BJP put former CM Basavaraj Bommai on the ticket for the Haveri-Gadag Lok Sabha constituency, the senior BJP leader claimed Yediyurappa had promised that his son KE Kantesh would be the party's candidate for the seat. Making no bones about his misgivings on Wednesday, Eshwarappa told reporters, "Yediyurappa promised KE Kantesh will get the BJP ticket from Haveri. Taking him at his word, Kantesh was directing his efforts on Haveri, trying to win the trust of the people. However, my son was eventually denied a ticket. Yediyurappa cheated us."

He claimed that his supporters were urging him to contest the Shimoga seat as an Independent, opposite Yediyurappa's son BY Raghavendra, as a mark of protest. "The party unit in Karnataka is in the hands of a family. There is a call within to protect the party from the family. Aren't there any other Lingayat leaders in Karnataka? Yediyurappa ensured tickets for Shobha Karandlaje and Basavaraj Bommai. Why then was my son Kantesh ignored? This is grave injustice," the senior BJP leader said.

"I have served the party faithfully for 40 years. CT Ravi, Sadananda Gowda, Nalin Kumar Kateel and Pratap Simha have also come out in my support, saying it was unfair," Eshwarappa claimed.

The former Deputy CM alleged that Yediyurappa deliberately gave the Haveri ticket to Bommai despite promising that the party would pick Kantesh from the seat.

Former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday thanked Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) top leaders for making him a candidate from Haveri-Gadag Lok Sabha constituency. Basavaraj Bommai expressed confidence that Narendra Modi will become the Prime Minister for the third time. Appreciating PM Modi, he said, "Like the people from across the country, the electorate of Haveri-Gadag wants to make Narendra Modi the Prime Minister another time to make the Bharath strong."

"The people of Haveri-Gadag would elect him by a big margin," he added further.

He further said that with the blessings of the people, he would do development as sought by them. Asked about former minister K.S.Eshwarappa being unhappy over the denial of a ticket for his son, the former CM said Eshwarappa had been travelling in the constituency for the last six months. "I had appealed to the Parliamentary Board to give a ticket to K E Kantesh based on social justice but the national leaders had selected him as the candidate to ensure victory. Eshwarappa has been a very senior member and he would be given suitable respect to him. I enjoy a good relationship with the Kuruba community ". He said new faces had been given tickets, especially to youths with political experience and that was possible only in BJP. "The party workers wanted the sitting MP D V Sadananda Gowda to contest again from the Bengaluru North Lok Sabha constituency. Both Eshwarappa and Sadananda Gowda would be given good positions in the party. Former CM Jagadish Shettar had been a senior BJP leader and there would be no internal problems within the party," he added. It is noteworthy that the BJP released the second list of Lok Sabha polls on Wednesday, consisting of 72 candidates, including three former Chief Ministers Manohar Lal Khattar, Trivendra Singh Rawat, Basavaraj Bommai as well as four Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, Anurag Thakur, and Piyush Goyal, Pralhad Joshi.

Union home minister Amit Shah asserted that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will never be taken back and the BJP-led government will never compromise with it. “This is our sovereign right to ensure Indian citizenship in our country, we will never compromise on it and CAA will never be taken back,” the senior BJP leader said in an interview with ANI. The rules of the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act, or CAA, were notified earlier this week, sparking criticism from the opposition parties.

Asked about the statements of the leaders of the INDIA bloc on repealing the law if they come to power, the home minister said that even the opposition is aware it has bleak chances of coming to power.

"Even INDI alliance knows that it will not come into power. CAA has been brought by the BJP, and the Narendra Modi-led government has brought it. It is impossible to repeal it. We will spread awareness about it in the whole nation so that those who want to repeal it do not get a place," Shah said. He scoffed at the opposition's allegations that the Bharatiya Janata Party is creating a new vote bank through the controversial law.

"The opposition has no other work. They have a history of saying one thing and doing another. However, the history of Prime Minister Modi and the BJP is different. What BJP or PM Modi says is like carved in stone. Every guarantee made by Modi is fulfilled," Shah said.

Refuting the charge that the BJP is using CAA for political gains, Shah pointed to the opposition's similar objections to crucial national security decisions.

"They even said that there was a political benefit in surgical strikes and air strikes. So, should we not take action against terrorism?" Shah questioned.

Asking people to vote for Congress in the Lok Sabha polls, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday said that the development of the state is possible only if the people support the party that "delivers on its promises." He was addressing the public after distributing the benefits of various schemes to the beneficiaries of the Congress party's Guarantee Schemes. The event was organised by the Mandya District Administration and Zilla Panchayat.

"The people of the state have blessed us beyond our expectations in the last election. They made us win 136 seats in the state. The people of Karnataka have made a wise decision," Siddaramaiah said.

He said that the people of Mandya also made the right decision even though they were given false promises and misled, he said.

"On the day of taking the oath, we decided to implement 5 guarantees in the Cabinet meeting. Shakti scheme has been launched where 3.50 crore women of the state can travel in government buses for free," Siddaramaiah said.

Union minister Smriti Irani on Monday launched a scathing attack on RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and the opposition's Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc over the "parivaarvad" jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that the 140 crore people of India are his family members and no one could even dare to touch even a hair of the “Pradhan Sevak” (PM Modi). Addressing a gathering at the 'Namo Yuva Maha Sammelan' organised by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in Maharashtra's Nagpur, Smriti Irani said the youth, the party workers and the 140 crore Indians are “Modi's parivaar" (family).

"...By being 'pradhan sevak', he (PM Modi) worked for the family 'India'...The fodder thief of INDI alliance said that he (PM Modi) has no family, I want to tell him that, we are 'Modi's parivaar', these youths are 'Modi's parivaar'...nobody will be able to touch even a hair of that person whose family are 140 crore people of India," news agency ANI quoted the Union minister as saying. Further, she also dared Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is carrying out the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from Manipur to Mumbai, to have a debate on the "difference" between the 10 years of UPA rule and the Narendra Modi-led union government.

"If my voice is reaching Rahul Gandhi, then he should listen with open ears. Let there be a discussion on what is the difference between your (UPA) 10 years and Modi's 10 years," she said.

05/03/2024

In a shocking development in the probe into the Bengaluru Rameshwaram Cafe blast, reports are now emerging suggesting a possible link between the suspect and the Ballari ISIS module.

Reports citing official sources have pointed at several similarities between the blast and the cases linked to the ISIS module, although whether the ISIS Ballari module is still active is yet to be confirmed. One of the similarities mentioned in the reports is the assembly of the improvised explosive devices (IED).

Moreover, the ex*****on of the blast also appears to have similarities with previous such blasts in the state including the Mangaluru cooker blast.

In December last year, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested eight terrorists in the ISIS Ballari module case including its leader Minaz. The NIA swooped down on 19 locations spread across Ballari and Bengaluru in Karnataka; Amaravati, Mumbai and Pune in Maharashtra; Jamshedpur and Bokaro in Jharkhand and Delhi.

The raids also led to the seizure of explosive raw materials, such as Sulphur, Potassium Nitrate, Charcoal, Gunpowder, Sugar and Ethanol, sharp-edged weapons, unaccounted cash and incriminating documents, along with smartphones and other digital devices.

The accused had planned to use the explosive raw materials for the fabrication of IEDs, which were to be used for carrying out terror acts. Another similarity is that the Bengaluru blast too appears to be a lone wolf attack so far like the Mangaluru cooker blast case.

The CCTV footage obtained from the Rameshwaram Cafe after the explosion showed a person wearing a white hat and mask, carrying a backpack and wearing spectacles entering the Rameshwaram Cafe. The investigating team seized a timer, battery, circuit, panel, and wire associated with the explosive device. The suspect terrorist posed as a customer and put a bomb in the hotel while pretending to have breakfast.

The materials needed to make the device were forwarded to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for further examination.

Other than the ISIS Ballari module, a link to Lashkar-e-Taiba’s module led by terrorist Abdul Karim Tunda aka “Doctor of Bomb” is also emerging. Tunda was acquitted in a terrorist bombing case in Rajasthan just a day before the attack in Bengaluru.

Notably, the NIA had also foiled a su***de attack planned by the Lashkar module in Bengaluru last year. The Rameshwaram Café blast is also being attributed to the PFI module, a SIMI offshoot based in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoband.

ISIS is increasing its influence in Karnataka, while PFI struggles to reorganise owing to financial constraints and monitoring by central agencies. Security agencies are concerned about ISIS’s access to funding and the radicalization of former PFI jihadis.
