*Two ‘militant helpers’ arrested in Baramulla: Police*
Baramulla, Feb 23, Combined Forces arrested two ‘militant helpers’ and recovered 40 bullets of an assault rifle from their possession in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Police said thatBaramulla Police received specific information through reliable sources that unknown militant group from Khachadari Zehanpora are using illegal arms and ammunition against police and other security forces in the main area of Baramulla to disturb the peace and law and order.
Acting on the information, joint parties of Baramulla Police, Army 46 RR, 2nd Battalion SSB, and 53 Battalion CRPF established many Nakas within the jurisdiction of Police Station Sheeri among them one was established on Zehanpora-Khadniyar link road and during checking one Scooty (JK05A- 9328) which was coming from Zehanpora with pillion ride. One seeing the naka party they tried to flee away from naka. However, naka party apprehended both the persons and during their personal search 40 live rounds of AK-47 rifle were recovered from their possession.
The arrested duo was identified as Imtiyaz Ahmed Bardal and Muneer Ahmed, both residents of Khachadari Zehanpora and confessed that they are working for TRF militant group and help to carry illegal arms and ammunition from one place to another to carry attacks on joint forces.
Police said that a case under relevant sections of law has been registered against the duo at Police Station Sheeri and an investigation set in motion.

*Heavy Snowfall Forces More Flight Cancellations At Srinagar Airport*
Srinagar, Feb 23 Moderate to heavy snowfall has led to cancellation of more flights at the Srinagar ‘International’ airport on Wednesday.
After (G8-266/267 G8-357/358 AI-3425/3426), UK 611/612, SG 8374, SG 8475, G8-191/193, G8-911/913, 6E-5076/5079 and 6E-2363/2364), flights—(SG-161 SG-945 UK-643 UK-644 6E-609 6E-137 6E-224 6E-6738)' have been also cancelled, Airport Authority of India said in a tweet. “All flights except G8-268 of GoFirst airlines have been cancelled. We will update about G8–268 later,” it said, adding, “All other flights of all airlines are delayed.”
It said that the snowfall had stopped at about 1230 p.m. and snow clearing operations was resumed “with renewed effort but the snowfall has startd again.”
Officials told that many flights more are expected to be cancelled. However a final call would be taken by the authorities concerned, they said. While a number of flights have been cancelled already, AAI has urged all commuters to watch for updates regarding operationalising or otherwise of the flights.

Kulgam : February 23,Continuing unwavering efforts to help the needy, Kulgam police today received a distress call from Bunpora, Kulgam; stating that a pregnant lady was stuck due to heavy accumulation of snow and family members were unable to carry her to hospital at their own as she was suffering from irresistible pain and was in need of immediate medical attention.
On tip off, a Police Party from Police Station Kulgam rushed to the spot immediately after walking 2 Kms amid blocked ways and slippery roads, helped the lady to reach District Hospital Kulgam for medical treatmenttreatment in official vehicle. As no ambulance service or any regular vehicle could be used to shift the lady to hospital.
Locals especially family members of the pregnant lady thanked and applauded the efforts of Kulgam Police for prompt response and timely assistance in such a crucial juncture.

Srinagar, Feb 23 Kashmir Valley received moderate to heavy snowfall since overnight while as weather office here has predicted gradual decrease from Wednesday afternoon.
“Moderate to heavy rain/snow with isolated very Heavy snow occurred at most places of J&K with higher reaches reporting 1-2 ft of snow and thunderstorms in Jammu region,” a meteorological department official here said in a statement to
Srinagar, the summer capital of the J&K, reported 7.5 inches of snow till 830 hours today, he said.
“We expect gradual decrease in rain/snow from today afternoon and significant improvement from evening,” the MeT official said, adding, “Overall improvement is most likely from February 24 onwards”. After this spell, the official said, “there's no forecast of any major rain/snow till ending February.”
While Srinagar had 19 cms (7.5 inches) of snowfall till 0830 hours, it recorded a drop of 3.8 degrees Celsius in night temperature with mercury settling at 0.0°C against last night’s minus 3.8°C. The temperature was above 0.9°C than the normal for this time of the year in Srinagar, he said.
Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, received 41 cms (16.14 inches) of snowfall till 0830 hours while as it recorded a low of 0.0°C against 2.2°C on the previous night, he said.
Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, received 34 cms (13.38 inches) snowfall and had a low of minus 1.0°C against 2.2°C on the previous night, the official said.
Pahalgam, the famous resort in south Kashmir, received 35 cms (13.77inches) while as it recorded a low of minus 0.8°C against minus 2.4°C last night, he said.
Gulmarg had 37.6 cms (14.8 inches) of fresh snowfall while as it recorded a low of minus 5.2°C against minus 5.0°C on the previous night, he said.
The temperature was 1.5°C above normal for this time of the year in the famous resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir received 5.2cms (2.04 inches) of snowfall recorded a low of 0.1°C against 2.2°C on the previous night, the official said.
While ‘Chillai Kalan’, the 40-day long harshest period of winter ended on January 30, and 20-day long ‘Chillai Khurd’ culminated on February 19, Kashmir is presently under the grip of 10-day-long ‘Chilla Bachha’.
Jammu recorded a low of 13.2°C against 12.8°C on the previous night, the official said. The temperature was 2.2°C above normal for the J&K’s winter capital during this time of the year, he said.
Banihal received 5 cms of snowfall recorded a low of 0.0°C, Batote recorded 7.3°C and Bhaderwah, with 0.5cm of snowfall, witnessed a low of 5.1°C, the official said.
Ladakh’s Leh recorded a low of minus 6.9°C against last night minus 8.6°C on previous night while mercury at automatic station in Kargil settled at minus 11.2°C. Kargil received 23.5 cms of snowfall. Drass, the second coldest place in the world after Siberia, recorded a low of minus 7.2°C against minus 14.0°C on the previous night, official said.

The residential house belong to Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh Son of Habibullah Sheikh resident of Padibal tral.

*2 Tourists Among 7 Persons Injured in Pahalgam Road Mishap*
Srinagar, Feb 22 : At least seven persons, which included two tourists, were injured after a vehicle they were on board skidded off the road at Laganbal along Pahalgam road in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Reports reaching GNS said that a Tavera fell into a gorge after skidding off the road, resulting in injuries to seven persons.
Confirming the incident, a police official told GNS that details into the incident are being collected.

Srinagar, Feb 22 : Body of a non-local hawker was found at Sheen Mohalla area of Noorbagh Srinagar, officials said on Tuesday.
They identified the deceased as Papu son of Sohan Lal of Saharanpora Uetter Pradesh.
The 31-year-old, they said, was putting up as tenant in the house of Ghulam Mohammad Sofi of Baghwanpora Noor Bagh. Police shifted the body to SMHS hospital for medico-legal proceedings, they said.

Srinagar, Feb 22 In yet another tragic incident of its kind, a 25-year-old youth was killed after hit by a train near Wanabal area of Rawalpora Rangreth in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Tuesday.
Official sources told that the youth Zakir Ahmad Khatana son of Ghulam Ahmad Khatana of Lolab Kupwara was crossing the railway track when the train came and hit him. Zakir died on the spot, they said. There have been a number of such accidents just recently.

*First tribal youth from J-K's Srinagar qualifies NEET 2022*

Srinagar, February 21: A tribal boy from Mulnar Harwan in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar has cracked the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) 2022 exam and made his family and community proud.

A tribal boy, Tufail Ahmad got his education from Mission School New Theed Harwan Srinagar till class 8 before moving to Government Higher Secondary School, Shalimar to complete his class 12.

Speaking to ANI, Ahmad shared the struggles and hardships he faced in his life saying he was deprived of many basic facilities. Walking kilometers to get access to the internet and to reach school was one of the difficulties he had gone through.

"I used to walk all way long to Srinagar to get access to the internet and used to download my study videos. The financial crunch was also there in my family. When I was 3 to 4 standard, I didn't buy new books," he said.

Taking about the where inspiration he got from? Ahmad said it was the hardships he faced that pushed him to do something for himself as well as the tribal community.

"As far talking about tribal people we face many basic facilities and the place I belong, people here face electricity and connectivity problem more often. So it is always in my mind to do something for these people," Ahmad said.

"My brother and mother encouraged and supported me all the way to my journey. My mother who is uneducated herself used to push me to study, hence there was an immense support from my family," he added.

Tufail Ahmad's brother said it is a proud moment for the family and the whole community. He did it despite being deprived of many basic facilities.

"We are very happy. We never thought it will happen but he did it with the support of family and his hard work. It is a proud moment for us as well as our community. Despite being deprived of many basic facilities he did it," he said.–(ANI)

A high level delegation of Traders Federation Baramulla on Saturday held a detailed discussion with Director Local Bodies Madam Mathoora Masoom on the issues pertaining to Baramulla town at her Srinagar office. The meeting besides Director Local Bodies was attended by general secretary Federation, Er Tariq Ahmad Mughloo, chairman, Ishfaq Ahmad Qazi and vice chairman, Javeed Ahmad Soleah. The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere and Director Local Bodies gave patient hearing towards the problems faced by inhabitants of Baramulla and its adjacent localities. In the meeting delegation brought several burning issues of town in the notice of director, especially the absence of a slaughter house which despite construction of a building on the outskirts of the town is lying idle. The officer was also apprised about the absence of parking spaces in the town which has led blocking of roads in the town on the daily basis. The delegation also highlighted the issue of Waste Management Disposal plant for Baramulla town. Director Local Bodies told the delegation that DPR of the project is in final stages and solid waste management plant could be reality in coming months. The rehabilitation of street vendors was also taken up with the officer. The delegation informed the officer about issues of street lights and its regular maintenence due to which these lights turn defunct after few months. The Director assured the delegation that contract for installation of lights and service maintenence for period of five years with a reputed company will resolve this issue. At the end of the meeting Er Tariq expressed thanks to Director on behalf of people of town for taking keen interest in the development of urban areas of the historical town.

Baramulla: A day after Government High School Sangri Top Baramulla recorded zero pass percentage in the annual regular 10th class examination, parents and locals staged protest against the staff and educational authorities demanding immediate action against the teachers.

According to protesting locals, GHS Sangri Top has 12 teachers for 95 students having only four students in class 10th which appeared in the examinations but none among them passed recording zero percent results.

Demanding immediate suspension and transfer of the staff, Abdul Qayoom Khan, a local social activist said, “There is so called intelligent teacher Owais Nanda who is always on social media like Twitter and Facebook making tall claims about uplifting of educational standard of the school but his school records zero percent result 10the which puts question mark on their duties.”

“What did Owais Nanda do with his own students where he draws a huge salary,” asked Khan.

The protesting locals allege that teachers are not performing their duties properly and results are dismal.

“The teachers come here to pass the time. The students belong to poor parents. Why can’t students pass the exams which is disgusting not to talk of distinctions and good marks," another resident Riyaz Ahmad Khan said.

The protesting locals demanded stern action against the teachers and appealed CEO Baramulla for his personal intervention besides Director School Education Kashmir must reshuffle the staff.

When Chief Education Officer Baramulla (CEO) G. M Lone was contacted he was in a meeting, later, he called back this reporter and ironically asked why this reporter went to cover the protest?

“CEO Baramulla neither wants to give his version nor comes clear as to what department has done so far against the teachers,” said another local.
