*Lok Sabha Elections-2024:MCC violations to be reported online, tracking complaints made easier*

Jammu, March,31(GNS)

Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched an online application for citizens to report Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violations during the election period.

The application is called β€˜cVIGIL’ to denote vigilant citizens of our country who can play a proactive and responsible role in conduct of free and fair elections.

This innovative application β€˜cVIGIL’ allows vigilant citizens to give live reports on incidents of MCC violation within minutes of having witnessed them. They don’t have to rush any more to the office of the Returning Officer in their assembly constituency. Once an incident of MCC violation is reported by cVIGIL, it would be forwarded to a flying squad for investigation. In case of a registered complaint, a unique ID number would be generated to allow the citizen to track their complaint status. Anonymous complaints do not get any identification numbers for tracking purpose.

The citizens can use cVIGIL only to report MCC violation cases. For other complaints, they can use the facility available in the mobile app/website of ECI Citizen Services.

For more information, the citizens are encouraged to visit the official website of Election Commission of India https://www.eci.gov.in/. The application is available on both Android and IOS devices.(GNS)...

*Over 1,000 Probationary Police Officers Undergoing Training At Army’s Counter-Terror Facility In J&K*

JAMMU, Mar,31:

Over 1,000 probationary police officers, including 62 deputy superintendents of police, are undergoing a six-week long training at the Army’s counter-terror White Knight Corps battle school in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, officials said.

The integrated training programme β€” a first of its kind in the Union Territory grappling with over three decades of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism β€” commenced on March 19.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in a recent interview, said the government has plans to pull back troops from Jammu and Kashmir and leave law and order to the Union Territory’s police alone.
β€œWe have plans to pull back troops and leave law and order to the Jammu and Kashmir Police alone. Earlier, the Jammu and Kashmir Police was not trusted but today they are leading the operations,” he had said.

According to police, the integrated training programme was aimed at enhancing the coordination and combined operational capabilities of both forces, which for over three decades have combated terrorism side by side.

β€œThe training is focussed on operational tactics, intelligence sharing, and counter-terrorism strategies, drawing on the Indian Army’s extensive experience in these fields. This joint training marks a continued commitment to security and the well-being of the region’s residents,” a police official said.

He said it is a stride towards a future where the alignment of the Army and local police play a pivotal role in maintaining peace and safety in Jammu and Kashmir.

β€œThe valour and sacrifices of both forces in the face of adversity have been instrumental in maintaining national security. The synergy achieved during training will pave the way for the restoration of peace and normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir. This will also facilitate the police in emerging as a more potent and well-trained force,” the official said.

Referring to successful counter-terrorism operations in south Kashmir’s Pulwama and the strategic containment in north Kashmir’s Sopore, considered a transit for infiltrating terrorists, he said these operations have not only disrupted terror activities but also restored law and order, paving the way for peace and stability.

The operations are also testaments to the collaborative excellence of the Army and police. The integrated training programme is expected to solidify this partnership, leading to even more effective counter-terrorism operations, the official said.

Director General of Police R R Swain, who is said to be the brain behind the initiative, and General Officer Commanding (GOC) of White Knight Corps Lt Gen Navin Sachdeva separately visited the battle school on March 23 and 27, respectively, and reviewed the training of the officers that included 989 newly inducted sub-inspectors.

Of those undergoing training, 128 are female officers, including 19 DSPs and 109 sub-inspectors.
Lt Gen Sachdeva mentioned that he was sure that the training would result in enhanced jointness between the two organisations through sharing and understanding each other’s strengths, ethos, culture, values and best practices.

β€œThe joint training initiative not only underscores the enduring partnership between the Dhruva Command (Udhampur-based Northern command) and White Knight Corps with the Jammu and Kashmir police but also reflects their shared long-term vision of a secure and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir,” the GOC had said....

*Cong Gets Fresh I-T Notice Of Over Rs 1,745 Crore, Total Tax Demand Rises To Rs 3567 Crore*

New Delhi, Mar,31:

In mounting trouble for the Congress, sources in the party said it has received fresh notices from the Income Tax department, raising a tax demand of Rs 1,745 crore for the assessment years 2014-15 to 2016-17.
With this latest notice, the Income Tax department has raised a total demand of Rs 3,567 crore from the Congress.

According to sources, the fresh tax notices relate to 2014-15 (Rs 663 crore), 2015-16 (around Rs 664 crore) and 2016-17 (around Rs 417 crore). The authorities have ended the tax exemption available to political parties and have taxed the party for the entire collections, they added.
The Congress has also been taxed for β€œthird-party entries” made in diaries seized from some of its leaders by probe agencies during raids, the sources said.

The main opposition party on Friday said that it has received notices from the I-T department, asking it to pay around Rs 1,823 crore. The tax authorities have already withdrawn Rs 135 crore from the party’s accounts for a tax demand relating to previous years.

The Congress has moved the court against the Rs 135-crore tax demand and the case is likely to come up before the Supreme Court on Monday. The party has failed to get any relief from the High Court of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal in this regard.

Congress leaders have contended that similar third-party entries naming BJP leaders in other diaries have not been levied any tax. They have accused the BJP of indulging in β€œtax terrorism” and financially crippling the principal opposition party during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

By doing so, they are disturbing the level playing field during elections, the Congress has alleged. It has also complained to the Election Commission in this regard and urged it to maintain a level playing field. (AGENCIES)...
