What’s your 2024 resolutions?🌼

There has been some bad habits that I had been fostering last year which includes being sarcastic in my comments.

It’s been my way of dealing with negative(non-constructive) and troll comments.

But this year I’ve decided to NOT GIVE A DAMN. No matter how clever they try to be. No point in fuelling their hunger for being mean.

I used to think that explaining would make people understand. But no! Nobody cares to understand. Conversations CANNOT be started with trolls.

I’m pretty sure there will be a noted few coming out in this post too, but it’s going to be a ‘give a chance’ and block. No other way.

These trolls do affect you to some extent but I’m not giving them any more chances to affect me. They’re just people with sad lives out to reduce their frustration by putting other people down.

This is the MAIN habit that I’m taking OUT!

❓Which is the ONE habit you’re taking OUT?

Happy 6th, my best friend!

It’s been 8.5 years that we’ve tolerated each other. I use the word ‘tolerate’ because I know I’m a PIECE OF WORK.😅 And you can be a self-righteous ass at times too.

I’m the eccentric hobo, you choose to be with, inspite of our differences.

Our relationship is far from perfect. We know that.

We have those days when we cannot tolerate each other but we also have those days when we are pure comfort for each other.

There have been days when we almost called it quits.

But just knowing that it is more than just a marriage we’ll be losing - it’ll be a best friend, a confidante, we’ll lose if we went our separate ways, is what’s stopped us and made us work harder to be together.

I know my feminist side has made life harder for you than for most other men, but thank you for learning to be a partner and not just a husband.

You call out my bu****it (which I hate to admit) faster than an online troll. And help me keep a balance while dealing with the dark web of the internet.

I love you for holding space for me to be the imperfect person that I am and I hope I am able to do the same for you.

To many more years together! 🤗

Sharing this because I believe this is a topic that needs to be discussed, in a country like ours, where inequality still exists so blatantly.

And sometimes we are ALL part of it.

I am open to opposition and debates. I will put forth my beliefs and you can share yours. We don’t have to convince each other. But we can atleast be polite to each other.

Yes, this has NOTHING to do with Sustainability. But I don’t think sustainability would be possible without addressing our issues faced by our domestic workers.

I’ve had so many message me about this. But I want the whole world to see that there are many who see this inequality and stand for these workers. And it isn’t just a few of us.

The tale of a keychain.

The Zivah keychain came about from a piece of cloth that one of you had brought to give me at a Zero-Waste Meetup in Bangalore.

This had been leftover cloth. And I fell in love with the prints as soon as I saw it.

Unfortunately, it didn’t have the dimensions to be made into a good Scrunchie.

So I was torn on what I could create with it. I didn’t want to use it as ONE of many scraps used in making one product.

I knew it deserved to stand alone on its own.

After doing quite a lot of research, I came up with using it as a keychain.

As someone who forgets my keys here and there, I felt it was a perfect use of the small fabric I received.

I spend hours learning how to make it, hours on deciding what kind of clasps I wanted for the keychain.

Finally I made it, inspite of knowing that if it turns bad, there’s no second chance.

But it came out so well that I was super proud of myself.☺️

If I have to call out on favouritism towards my own products, it will have to be the special love to this one.

So I hope that ANY of you who decides to buy it will love it like I do, as it’s ONE OF ITS KIND. And there will NOT be another like it.

It’s priced at ₹249 but until the end of today, it’s available for ₹212 with 15% discount. Tomorrow it will go back to its actual price.

So may the lucky one get this special wristlet keychain from .in that’s got a lot of my love.

There are some brands that we just love.

And is one of them for me.

A bunch of genuine people working together to make Upcycled Fashion become as popular as mainstream fashion.

Working with brands can often be super stressful, but Refash were the chillest of the lot. Giving me the creative freedom to do what I do best.

And I cannoooootttt stop loving their clothes.

The noodle strap blouse I’m wearing is reversible. Yes, it has a pink design inside that I can reverse and wear as a new blouse.

The beige Co-ords is simply wow. I so badly wish I could have danced to garba in that outfit. It would have been perfect.😍

And no. Refash doesn’t just have expensive outfits. They have items starting from less than ₹1,000 to ₹25,000 or more.

Meaning you have price range of a large variety.

Just turn on the Price Filter to find less expensive outfits or accessories.

P.s. This is NOT a sponsored post.

But I genuinely loved their products too much that I wanted to share it once again with each of you.

Because they’re one brand that deserves a lot of love.

❓Which is one of your favourite sustainable clothes brand?

Analysing my Dance Costume.

I did NOT buy a new Ethnic wear for this dance video.

I was able to manage my costume by digging into my own wardrobe.

- Blouse: It’s a hand-me-down blouse from my cousin sister which was tight for me but could be loosened by taking out a few stitches.

- Palazzo: Was purchased secondhand from in 2021.

- Dupatta: It was a gift send by in 2021 which I’ve been in love with and have used in multiple videos and photos already.

- Earrings: Don’t remember where I got it from (mostly likely stolen from mom or sister) but it’s been in my Earrings storage for atleast 4-5 years now.

- Neckpiece: It is a broken chain from an old handbag which I didn’t feel like throwing away as I saw it’s potential as an ethnic belt or neckpiece. And it looks so pretty as a neckpiece.

- Bangles: Artificial ones bought in 2017 as a part of my wedding trousseau.

As a dancer, I am aware of the dozens of costumes that are stitched often for a one-time use and then thrown into the back of our wardrobe never to be used again.

That’s one of the reasons I haven’t gone to the dance performances in my community. Because I’ve tried to encourage the use of what we already had but nobody listened to me because ‘what’s the big deal in spending ₹200 for buying the same blouse material for everyone?’

I know most of you may think ‘what’s the big deal?’ It’s only one blouse. But it isn’t one dance ever, is it? It’s the multiple dances every year that will require many more blouses, skirts or dupattas to be bought.

What’s an alternative?

RENTING!

There are costume renting agencies available in every city today. And they have many options for all kinds of dance or theatre needs.

I remember during my Classical dance training days…we used to have an Annual Day and in all the group dances, every artist wore their own dresses. It wasn’t uniform. Everyone wore a different coloured dress. The only thing common was the hairstyle and makeup. Everything else was different. And it still looked so beautiful on stage.

So why can’t that happen for all dances?

Think about it.

Spending a day with the Eco-Warriors was a total game-changer. 🌍

So, the day kicked off with Aakash, who was super stoked to introduce me to his brand-new book, 'I'm A Climate Optimist' - by the way, it's on Amazon at an amazing price right now, so don't miss it! 📖

Then, I finally got to meet Soumya for the very first time, with my gal Haseena. We sat down and had the most real conversations about all the eco-challenges we're facing. No judgment, just a safe space to share.

The best part? Hanging out with a few from the Bangalore Zero-waste squad - Mrudula(the photographer), Dyuthi, and Pooshan over at which is our favourite thrift store in the city.♻️

And of course, I grabbed some much-needed eco-goodies from Ullisu.

Can’t wait to meet up more often with these folks who
share my values and have got my back, always. 🤝

❓Tag your eco-gang members and get them to meet up often because they’re you’re safe-space.. amiright?

The feeling of accomplishment.

Yesterday, when my friend organised a close-knit session for slowing down at Cubbon Park, I wasn’t sure what to expect from it.

I just knew that I needed a break from a lot of mental struggle from overthinking and procrastinating.

After years, atleast 5 of them, I sketched!😌

I had bought a mandala book to sketch years back and I hadn’t even finished one page of it, till date.

Yesterday when I managed to finished one entire page of it, ACCOMPLISHMENT was my first feeling.

I felt that I finished something that I started out.

Because I do have the habit of starting something and stopping in the middle of it. Randomly. Because of mindblocks.

Yesterday, I just kept going. Did not think. Did not care. Just kept sketching on and on.

I did not even rush myself.

I took my sweet time to finish it. And I felt so proud of myself when I did.

I really slowed down.

I didn’t pick up my phone during the entire time.

Learnt to be present in the moment which is something I’d been struggling with, for a while.

If you’re like me, take atleast a bit of time away from the chaos of your home and go out, to a space that brings you peace.

It can be anywhere.

And do something like sketching, drawing, painting, reading etc that can keep you present in the moment.

Make sure to keep your phone away too.

Also contact my friend if you’d like to join her sessions in the coming months.

It’s a group that’s free of judgment where you can just be yourself.

❓What’s one activity that keeps you in the moment?

P.s. the second pic was traced from a waste orange peel.

Happy Uthradam to you!

As always, Onam is my most favourite festival ever, as it has a whole different vibe in itself…

Malayalis of EVERY RELIGION in the state and the country celebrate this day equally.

Wearing our beautiful settum mundum, with the flower carpet and the Kerala Sadhya.

Here, I’m wearing a 10-year old blouse from my sister. A set saree of my mom’s. And jewellery that is also my mom’s.

It is generally a custom for everyone to buy new OnaKodi(new outfits) for Onam. But I haven’t done that in the last 7-8 years atleast.

I keep mixing and matching blouses and sarees of my mom’s and mine. There’s enough of them to last years.

So have lots of payasam..spend good time with your family and enjoy your Onam like nothing else!😘

Are you a pet lover or an animal lover?🤔

I’ve had pets at home since I was born. My entire childhood was filled with cats and dogs at home.

But I’ve realised most of my family is made of pet lovers and not necessarily animal lovers.

I used to call myself an animal lover, always. And never realised the difference until the last 5 years, when I felt like a hypocrite and decided to change that.

Even recently, my family and I had gone to an animal rescue centre where we saw rescued calves, pigs, chickens, goats and more. We even petted some of them.

And then we went to a cafe for lunch, and my family ordered non vegetarian food, with no single thought.

It’s called COGNITIVE DISSONANCE.

What is that?
It is the mental discomfort that results from holding two conflicting beliefs.

Hence most people relieve this discomfort through rejection or avoidance.

I know multiple animal rescuers who love animals but go home and eat meat. It isn’t because they don’t love animals but the societal conditioning has been so high that it is very hard for them to see the dissonance clearly.

I have stopped guilt tripping people, as that NEVER WORKS. It ONLY backfires.

Instead, what I try to do now is start conversations around it. To let people think over what they really are - A Pet-lover or an Animal-lover.

It is always an uncomfortable conversation. And it may not change anything too. But always have it anyway. Because you never know.

P.s. And the bumblebee in the pictures with me is Pixie. An adopted Indie dog of my friend .bae who’s an amazing Dog Mama. She in her Tutu is so adorable. She’s enjoying a good scratch from me in these photos.

Two days of Solo Travel in Goa,
And I already love it so much.

The monsoon just makes Goa so much more greener. This is probably the best time I’ve been here.

And making new friends…shek_sahu and of course, my dearest Sonal.

People are surprised when they meet us to know that we’re just random people who met at a hostel became friends.

Although I’d travelled by myself to many cities, I always stayed with friends and never had to worry about anything.

So during this trip, I discovered that I still have the ability to go introduce myself to strangers and talk to them. Note than I’m an ambivert and can talk a LOT but only after someone starts talking to me. But this time, I started the talk too. And I’m so proud of myself for that.

When talking to them, I was able to introduce sustainability concepts to them too which was new to so many still.

So I believe going solo has probably been something I’ve done for myself after a long time.

I needed this. And I’m glad I did it.

Are we washing a little too much?

This week when I shared a video on Sustainable Laundry, I realised how certain cleaning ways have become ingrained in a lot of us.

A lot of us believe that MOST clothes need to be cleaned after every single wear.

Yes, some definitely do. But not MOST.

Today with the advance of technology, laundering has become super easy, which lead to this over washing of clothes.

I blame marketing gimmicks that portrayed ultra clean as an ultimate goal, which required unnecessary frequent washing which got you buying their products more frequently, making them richer, faster.

But this frequent washing has a negative side too:
- It leaves your clothes much more stressed, having it last much lesser.
- It takes us 2-3X the resources be it water or energy.

A simple hack to know when some of our clothes(that are not inner wear or activewear) may need to be washed is the ‘SNIFF TEST’.

Just smell your top, your shirt, your salwar, your jeans, once before you wear it. If it doesn’t smell bad in any way, it can be worn again. If not, put it into the laundry basket.

After each wear, hang your clothes out on a clothes stand or so, to keep their usage longer before a wash.

Also, try and wash your clothes on a cold cycle or if needed at 30 Celsius for shorter periods of 30 minutes or so, this uses up much lesser water and electricity. This has also been seen to reduce the release of microfibers into the water as well.

**This chart has been created after reading through 20-25 articles and a few journals, keeping the wash time, an average of what I saw in most pages **

** Journals referred;
- Nobody was dirty: Intervening in inconspicuous of laundry routines
Dyes and Pigments: Improved garment longevity and reduced microfiber release…

Touring through my city of 9 years.

I get to see more of Bangalore when my parents come. Because that’s when I become a tourist, along with them.

This time, we visited a place that was so amazing that we felt we should have come on a weekday when there’s less crowd and when we had the time to spend several hours here.

Trust me, we could have spend over 5 hours inside this beautiful place with so much to learn inside it.

No, this isn’t a palace. Nor a bungalow.

It isn’t even a government owned building. It’s instead a private building, that portrays the magnificence of one of our most popular industries and it’s history.

It transports us back in time and my mom enjoyed it the most.

I’ve promised my mom that the next time they’re in Bangalore, we’ll go here on a weekday and spend hours here to our heart’s fullness.

❓Any guesses which place in Bangalore this is?😉
