Over the last 3 years we have been making a webseries, interviewing Aurovilians about how they relate to the Matrimandir, and releasing a new video each month.

Since now we have been making this from our own pocket, however we need your help to continue.

Our next plan is to make videos showcasing 4 Aurovilians in one video. We feel this would be more captivating to watch. Then one day we would also like to make a feature documentary.

In this series we interview Aurovilliens about their personal experiences with the Matrimandir in Auroville. Today it is Serena. The first time Serena saw Matrimandir was in a magazine at London Airport. She was flying to India and coincidentally she was also visiting Pondicherry. While in Pondicherry Serena rented a bicycle and rode to Auroville. She saw the Matrimandir from the viewing point and rode back. At the very centre of Auroville one finds the 'soul of the city', the Matrimandir.
The name 'Matrimandir' literally means 'Temple of the Mother'. According to Sri Aurobindo, the 'Mother' concept stands for the great evolutionary, conscious and intelligent principle of Life, the Universal Mother, - which seeks to help humanity move beyond its present limitations into the next stage of its evolutionary adventure, the supramental consciousness.

She came to Auroville in 1987 to do her internship as an architecture student. In 1988 Mona started working at the Matrimandir, which was being built. In 1989 she worked on her thesis on the Matrimandir and the Pyramids. And now Mona simply feel grateful to have the Matrimandir around her…
