It is great to meet with our partners at the EU-funded EcoScope Project at the consortium’s general assembly, taking place this week at the headquarters of CLS in Toulouse France.
Some 50 people, representing 24 partners of the international EcoScope project are currently meeting for three days. The project addresses ecosystem degradation and anthropogenic negative impact on fisheries in European seas. It aims to help restoring fisheries sustainability and ensure food security and healthy seas balance.
The European Union (EU) has awarded the EcoScope consortium close to €8 million to promote effective and efficient, ecosystem-based approach to fisheries management.
The four-year project addresses ecosystem degradation and anthropogenic impact that cause fisheries to be unsustainably exploited in several European Seas. EcoScope promotes efficient, holistic, sustainable, ecocentric fisheries management that will aid towards restoring fisheries sustainability and ensure balance between food security and healthy seas.
The consortium, which received funding through the EU Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme, is comprised of comprised of 24 partners from Greece, Bulgaria, Germany, Canada, Israel, Philippines, Spain France, Belgium, UK, Portugal, Italy, Netherlands, Malta, Norway, Switzerland and Cyprus. The partners include universities and research institutions, NGO’s, technology companies and businesses.
