Children who have reduced time on screens often sleep better, concentrate more easily on schoolwork, and are less likely to become irritable or overstimulated in the evenings

Imagine banning screens at home during the school week. No TV, no iPads, no gaming until Friday evening. Does it seem like an appealing idea? It could lead to a simpler, calmer week. No arguments about when to switch off. No negotiations for more time online. And perhaps even more family connection,...

For many workers, especially the self-employed, Halloween wasn’t the scariest thing last month: it was the eerie reminder that Revenue is just around the corner, ready to pounce unless they filed their annual tax return.

Roy Keane has revealed he always knew he could not win the battle with Ireland manager Mick McCarthy that ended his hopes of playing in the 2002 World Cup finals.

More than two decades after the explosive confrontation in Saipan that ended with Keane leaving Ireland’s World Cup squad, the former national team captain has admitted he simply couldn’t hold back in a row that had been building for a long time before the final showdown in front of his team-mates.

Yet despite his appreciation that he may be ending his own World Cup story in the row that took place in front of his team-mates, Keane told the Stick To Football podcast that he felt he had to confront McCarthy during a team meeting.

Keane conceded he could not contain his annoyance over the team kit arriving late in Saipan and poor quality pitches for training were impossible for him to ignore, as he reflected on a story that refuses to fade into the background.

“Football’s a selfish game and you look after yourself, but that’s not my gig,” he stated. “I’m not there to sort the gear out, so why am I getting drawn into something like that?

“I’d probably do exactly the same thing (now) because the biggest guilt is when you keep your mouth shut, but where is that line when you cross that you get drawn into a conversation with a manager where you say this is unacceptable?

“With my temperament, once you get involved in it, there’s no going back. That’s where the tension comes into it."
