Stopping for a funeral

This afternoon I was driving on a country road in the direction of Roscrea and a good few hundred yards ahead of me I noticed a hearse and funeral procession driving towards me. The second I saw it, I stopped the car and waited. This is what we do here in Wexford and noticed the exact same behind me today. Regardless of how busy the road was, everyone stopped and people blessed themselves as the hearse passed by. We stopped to think of the family, the neighbours and friends of this person whom we didn’t know. This was not an inconvenience, it is the least anyone can do. It is respect and something very very powerful. And after the very last car of the funeral cortège passed, and even a few seconds more, I turned the key in the ignition and I drove off and so did the cars behind me. This is instinctive and powerful and I did the exact same a few weeks ago here in rural Co. Wexford. These are things that are very important and they are things I hope we never loose.
