The Story Of Sea Pea Films

Lathyrus Japonicus (common names sea pea, beach pea, circumpolar pea and sea vetchling) is a legume native to temperate coastal areas of Asia, Europe, and North and South America.

Our story began thousands of years ago when the sea pea seed floated across the Atlantic Ocean and arrived on Irish shores. This beautifully delicate yet tough flower now grows on beaches across Ireland, flowering from July to August.

Fast forward another few thousand years to 2018 when Alice was in a right pickle about what to name her company. Alice, having inherited her love of plants from her granny and mother went to seek inspiration from the garden! She picked up a copy of ‘The Wild and Garden Plants of Ireland’ by E Charles Nelson and illustrated by Wendy Walsh, an artist who Alice loved since childhood.

Instantly she was drawn to the Sea Pea flower which was described in the book. This tenacious and tough plant survives on the wild sand dunes of the west coast and lives it’s life over looking the ocean. It perfectly encapsulated her love of the sea and nature thus came our name Sea Pea Films.
