Our Story

The Slieve Bloom Newsletter was originally printed on A4 sheets, by the editor of The Midland Tribune, J.I.Fanning. Many years after the last one was distributed, his grandson Derek revived it as a bi-annual, full colour, tabloid-sized, newspaper. Covering the area of Offaly, Laois and parts of Tipperary, it was filled with suggested walks and maps, events, articles, environmental matters, people, nature, poetry and more. For a number of years it sold well but sadly, the printing of it could no longer be afforded, and this page is all there is for news from and about the Slieve Blooms. If you live in the region and would like to contribute regularly to this page, to promote the area through information on events, historical topics of interest, or with photos, please send a message to make contact.
