Up this week is a story about a big dream that manifested over the course of 8 years. What began as a simple need for a relatively small space to store a piece of art equipment turned into a renovated warehouse and….. I’ll let Nancy Fischman of Fischman Gallery in Johnson City, TN tell the details. She continues to create community for local & regional artists and citizens through diverse programming. What a retirement plan!

With her magnetic, articulate, informative, compelling and engaging voice, she is an icon for women in radio.

Water water water…playlist is full of songs about water! Jill Andrews / River Swimming; Janis Ian / All Roads to the River; Rising Appalachia Music / Cripple Creek. Also Eva Cassidy, Kathy Moser and Sweet Honey in the Rock with their song, I Be Your Water. How ever interesting/intriguing/inspiring it is to hear how songwritings create a sense of place though sound. And again how a tradional tune may be reworked/ modified/modernized through instrumentation, tempo, vocals and harmonies. Special feature this week is interview segment with Karyna Swing, who speaks to the joy of bringing music to communities. She is part of Polyphony Marimba and returning to Music On the Square in downtown Jonesborough on Friday, August 4th. This audience favorite gets people dancing in the streets! Hope to see you there!
