The month of May is dedicated to honouring Mary, the mother of Jesus. It is a good time to focus on the Rosary, create a May altar or carry out other Marian devotions. We remember Our Lady’s kindness and the key role she plays in keeping us close to Jesus.

Our May/June issue is out now!
In this issue we have a wide array of articles. The Hare’s Corner series, by Anne Cowley continues with a very informative article on the tremendous harm done to the environment by plastic. Fr Dermot Connolly recounts the history of the favourite prayer of many Catholics, the Hail Mary. Maeve Edwards writes about the fleeting beauty of the cherry blossom which has inspired poets since the beginning of time. A young Malawian man tells his very moving story. He spent three years in prison for a crime he did not commit, before receiving a Presidential Pardon in 2023. He is now an undergraduate at the Malawi University of Business thanks to the support of generous benefactors in Ireland. Education and life are intertwined. Education brings people together and changes lives. You, our readers and subscribers are also changing lives. With your support, St Patrick’s missionaries are able to bring education to those who may not have access to it otherwise.
We are truly grateful for your continued support. Happy reading!

The April edition of Africa is out now!
In this issue we share Fr Michael Rodger’s reflection on Holy Week and Easter. Time, nature and tradition are intertwined throughout Holy Week.
Maeve Edwards fondly remembers Lent and Easter time from her childhood – the pancakes, the traditions, and the Easter Moon!
We celebrate the feast of St Bernadette on April 16th. Fr John Joyce tells the story of this young girl and her fearlessness when questioned by the authorities about the apparitions. He also looks at the mystery of miracles recorded at Lourdes and how even the most educated at the time, had no answers.
There are many, many more articles to enjoy.
We take this opportunity to thank you for your continued interest and support for the Africa magazine – we are truly grateful. We will keep you all in our prayers.
Happy reading!
