Second-hand and vintage fashion are booming, with many people now opting for a more sustainable way of shopping.

The surge in demand for pre-worn pieces is being fuelled by the soaring popularity of reselling apps such as Vinted and Depop, with social media also playing a role.

Gracie Collier from Co Laois is the owner of a vintage store Spice Vintage, based in Sligo.

“Social media has definitely helped,” she said. “People became more conscious during Covid because we were all on our phones consuming more content, and it was just a great opportunity to push the sustainable fashion envelope.”

According to Ms Collier, the main reasons behind people turning to charity shops and vintage shopping are accessibility and shopping cost-effectively.
