We are so excited to unveil our shiny new July|August edition — featuring Irish Country Magazine's first-ever double cover 💚
@niamhdevereux meets two Irish women from two generations, both athletic trailblazers: the record maker, Sonia O'Sullivan, and the record breaker, Rhasidat Adeleke. While Sonia reflects on a golden sporting career and her passion to now pass on the baton, Rhasidat opens up on her rise to sprinting fame (she won a *third* medal at the European Athletic Championships after we went to print!), and how she is dreaming of lifting gold on the podium at this summer's Olympic Games. Prepare to be filled with awe and inspiration at the sheer determination and grit of these two globally-revered sportswomen. Photography: @clairejnash

He did it! Cillian Murphy has become the first Irish-born actor to win an Oscar for Best Actor, for his masterful performance in 'Oppenheimer' — which was the big winner of the night, scooping seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
"I'm a very proud Irishman standing here tonight," the Corkman said whilst accepting his award, finishing with a cúpla focal 💚
Cillian wasn't the only Irish winner on the night: Dublin's Element Pictures, which made 'Poor Things', won in four categories: Production Design, Costume, Make-up & Hairstyling, and Best Actress for Emma Stone. Congratulations to all for doing Ireland so proud.

Inside our March|April issue, our health series #TheInvisibleStruggle shines a light on #epilepsy.
What are the many myths and misconceptions? What is it like to be one of the estimated 45,000+ people in Ireland (one in 100) living with epilepsy? @niamh_devereux reports with insights from @epilepsy_ireland & former Irish cricketer Emma Beamish.
On creating her illustration for this edition of #TheInvisibleStruggle, @sagray says: "I wanted to capture how epilepsy would feel to the sufferer. That moment of dropping out of consciousness. The lights at the top of the piece are to represent visual auras that some people experience with epilepsy."
If you ever witness a person having a seizure, remember these three words: TIME, SAFE, STAY. Time the seizure, as if it goes over five minutes, an ambulance should be called. Ensure the person is safe and don't ever put anything in the person's mouth or restrain them. With a non-convulsive seizure, gently guide the person away from any danger. And stay with the person during and after the seizure to gently reassure them.

We have some exciting news...
Almost 12 years ago, Irish Country Magazine was launched with the aim to profile fascinating Irish women, spotlight beautiful places across Ireland and showcase the incredible craft, design and produce made right here on this island (take a look down our cover memory lane above!)
All these years later, our core values remain the same, but we are ecstatic to announce our biggest growth in readership yet. Thanks to your support and loyalty, our readership jumped by an extraordinary 30,000 in 2023, bringing us to 153,000 readers in total. We appreciate every single one of you.
This year was a wonderful one for the magazine, in more ways than one. Our seventh #IrishMade awards ceremony was bigger and better than ever before, our health series #TheInvisibleStruggle was nominated for a @headline_ireland Mental Health Media Award, and hugely inspirational women graced our seven covers. From Captain of the Republic of Ireland football team Katie McCabe, aged 28, to former President Mary Robinson, soon to be 80, we will continue championing Irish women of all ages, from all walks of life, in 2024 and beyond.
We wish each of our readers and followers a very Happy New Year, and we look forward to creating more of the content you love. ☘️

We are honoured to share our December issue cover, out tomorrow. As we approach the 33-year anniversary of Mary Robinson’s inauguration as the first female President of Ireland, we sat down with Mrs Robinson to discuss her legacy. In a fascinating interview, she shares how much has changed since then, how women's voices are still powerful and necessary forces for positive change, and what fuels her passion to continue to fight for the most vulnerable people in our world.

Last night we attended the launch of @meathmade, a selective collective of Co Meath's most creative makers, from painters and jewellery makers to ceramicists and blacksmiths.
The aim of the collective, the first of its kind in the Royal County, is to promote and showcase excellence in craft and design, as well as to support members to develop sustainable business and create networking opportunities.
Chairperson of the initiative, @clareoconnor_studio, said it can be a lonely business, as a sole trader, and this is a way for creatives to join forces and support each other. The heritage and history of the county was proudly discussed on the night, namely that some of the first creatives and crafts people in Ireland came from Meath, thousands of years ago.
Currently, there are 38 members, but there will be a call out for more to join in 2024 on meathmade.com ☘️

Our annual Irish Made Awards took place in the glorious surroundings of Killashee Hotel on 5 October and it was certainly an evening to remember. Award winners, finalists, nominees and Irish Made supporters all gathered to celebrate the incredible brands and products produced in this country. The theme of the night was ‘Celebration and Collaboration’ and we were thrilled to have Minister Neale Richmond TD in attendance alongside our co-sponsors, Brid O’Connell from Guaranteed Irish and Mary Jo Hoyne from DCCI. Hosted by presenter and broadcaster Muireann O'Connell, the fashion was outstanding, the atmosphere was fantastic and we’re already looking forward to the next one!

La Roche-Posay have launched their brand new Effaclar Duo+M anti blemish corrective gel. The launch event hosted by @lorrainecandy was a very informative interview with Consultant Psycho-dermatologist for @larocheposay Dr Alia Ahmed @the_psychodermatologist and Ambassador for Mental Health, Dr Alex George @dralexgeorge
Both gave incredible insights into the relationship between the mind and the body, particularly when it comes to your skin and how important it is to look at the psychological impacts of skin conditions alongside treating the symptoms.
Taking time for yourself to destress can be vital in helping any skin conditions alongside the right derma-logical treatment and skincare routine. So go for a calming walk or treat yourself to that massage. Whatever makes you feel rested.
