The First Heresy spans approximately 1300 years of history as far back as the fourth century in Alexandria but is mainly based in early 14th century France and Ireland.
Affter its fall in 70 AD startling information about the origin of Christianity, is secreted out of Jerusalem into the hands of the last great pagan philosopher, Hypatia of Alexandria. As Hypatia is being sacrificed by a Catholic mob, her faithful slave companion, Leon, smuggles the information, which is contained in a small chest out of Egypt. Centuries later, clues to the First Heresy are revealed in Ireland to Cormac, a Norman youth, and his mentor, Guiscard, a retired Templar Knight. They believe that Hypatia’s information was sent to Uisneach, which during Hypatia’s lifetime, was the centre of pagan Ireland.
Guiscard calls a meeting of the Templars where he introduces Esi, a female scholar of Persian descent. Esi advises the Templars that Christianity, Islam and Judaism are merely constructs of a religion that rushes out of the mists of time, from a place of no records, that these religions are merely copies with evolutionary steps, not original creations. And that the Temple Scrolls do not contain any reference to the Son of God, or any attempt to convince early readers of his divinity. Esi believes that Hypatia chose to send secret knowledge out of Alexandria to pagan Ireland where it could seed in more fertile soil. The implication is that for years the Templars have been following false doctrines.
This sets in motion a brutal clash between Church and State, and a race across medieval France and Ireland. As the small group led by Esi is hunted by the Iron King’s army – the most powerful in Europe, Esi must confront her growing feelings for Cormac.
