🎬 Join us for a special screening and talk by award-winning filmmaker and academic, Dr. Ian McDonald, on Tuesday, Nov. 12th at 3pm at the Huston School of Film & Digital Media!

Dr. McDonald will explore ethics in documentary filmmaking, asking critical questions about ‘informed consent’ and whether a formal code of conduct is truly needed. The talk will also include a screening of his award-winning documentary Who Is Europe?, which delves into the politics of identity in Europe today.

Fiona received this award for her three-year investigation into defective building materials and pyrite in homes across Clare and the midwestern region. The investigation was published by the Clare Champion between 2020 and 2023.

Congrats to our Journalism and Media Students! Last night at the National Student Media Awards (Smeidas) in Dublin our MAJ and BAJ students won National Website of the Year for Galway Pulse! Michelle Geraghty also won the Virgin Media Belonging Award for her journalism feature on accessibility in Galway's parks.

This will be followed by a screening of the film ZERO at the PÁLÁS cinema at 6:00 pm and a Q&A between the director and Dr Tony Tracy [Huston School of Film].

At a US Senate hearing yesterday our colleague Dr Mei-Ling McNamara's work was referenced. At the hearing regarding Online Harms for Children all the 5 CEOs of the major tech companies were questioned before Congress about their failure to protect children online. Mei-Ling co-authored an article about how tech giant Meta is struggling to prevent criminals from using its platforms to buy and sell children for s*x which was the result of two years investigative work.
