There's an article about Coimicí Gael in Seachtain today. Seachtain is the Irish language newspaper that comes free with the Irish Independent every Wednesday. It's about comics and Irish. 😊

So the Stan Lee Eagle Awards are here. You very well might like to nominate Rírá in the Favourite European Comicbook section. Cén fáth? Well it's an anthology of fine artists and visual storytellers who ply their trade in many walks of comic/illustration/art life ach tá Rírá i nGaeilge freisin. Rírá is in Irish too. Wouldn't it be nice for an Irish, Irish language anthology made by a group of Irish based talent to even make the shortlist? Ba mhaith linn a bheith ar an ghearrlíosta (nó an líosta fada freisin). Rinneamar é roimhe leís eagrán a haon. Bhíomar ar an ghearrlíosta agus bhí ionadh an domhan orainn. We did it before with Issue 1. We were beside ourselves with amazement.

There are tons of other Irish comic press out there too to vote for if you feel they get your vote for Favourite European Comicbook too. So if you wish vote for them. Just go through the list they provide and hit Other (please specify) and type in Rírá or another one. Or click on one you see on the list.

Also must mention Mike Lynch Rírá writer has made the long list of the Favourite Rising Star: Writer category so you can click on him too (you might have seen the Freddy Mercury comic on Sky News there recently, yep he wrote that). Also Irish Comic News has made the Best Comics Website so if you wish to support more Irish comics stuff do throw their names down/click on them.

In aon chor go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir. Thanks a million in any case. Link is below. And best of luck to all. Go n-éirí libh go léir.

London Film and Comic Con will be hosting the Stan Lee Eagle Awards this July, and have already announced the legendary comic creator Stan Lee as one of its star guests, so it couldn't be a more perfect location for the awards.

To those of you who are from Ennis (and to those of you who are not but always wanted to see the place) you might want to venture to our cosy neck of the woods on the 24th of March 2013.

'Why, pray tell, might I?' I hear you (with this running commentary in me noggin) ask.

Well if you do, and you pop into the Templegate Hotel in Ennis, Co. Clare, which has a handy-dandy car park smack in the middle of the town, between 10am and 6pm you will find yourself at a comic mart. There you will find yourself greeted by a happy crew of comic loving people and producers of comics, who for the most part are based in County Clare. We are a happy-happy bunch and do love to waffle till the cows decide times up time for home about comics and share in our love of the medium. Now, as to who the important people that will be there are, well, that's you, dear reader. You would be the most important person at the Comic Mart (and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise, for without you there is no sharing of the love of the medium). Perhaps you will bring a guest or children. Then they will be there too. They are important too. The more the merrier. If you are teacher tell your students. If you happen to be in a rock band and you could say to your band members: 'Hey drummer! Hey guitar lad! Hey sitar player! Hey sitar player... oi! Get off that sitar! You made your point! We used it at the last gig now we are going to a comic mart in Ennis in the Templegate hotel, okay!' It doesn't have to be as aggressive as that. Be nice, bring 'em too. It's free. It's a nice day to get out meet people who like to draw stories in a visual medium for a bit.

As for the bunch of people who will be appearing there, I understand the wonderful people at Irish Comic News have all the info you require. However Dave O'Leary is the main man. It's his baby and please feel free to pat that back of his for taking that bull by those big horns and whispering the words 'There's going to be a Comic Mart in the Templegate Hotel on March 24th, ok!' (It wasn't really a question) When you do pat him on the back, please do bear in mind you have powerful hands be gentle. A light pat. A smack is not funny and sore. In some cases an arrestable offence. So a pat is fine with a smile.

I will be there showing Rírá 1 - 4 to the incoming traffic and probably will be scribbling people who are caught standing in front of my table onto paper. Beidh mé ag caint le daoine i nGaeilge freisin má tá Gaeilge agat ba mhaith liom caint leat. Níl mo Ghaeilge foirfe ach ba mhaith liom cleachtadh.

Mike Lynch and Martin Greene and Anthony O'Neill will be there from Abandoned Comics. They will be discussing further projects with each other while you look at their excellent Nestor and Mike's new book Blackstar. But they will also include you in the conversation (don't say I didn't warn you). This is because these three nice lads like to talk to people and anyone who orbits their conversational earshot type orbit thingy always gets a nice hello and almost always it is followed with a 'Here, what do you think of this idea we have for an upcoming scene from a comic we are working on...' I mustn't forget Charlene Bennett will probably be there. She reviews comics for Malta Comic Con and other endeavours. Emily 'Embo McKennis' Kenny I hope will be there too. She designs logos and stuff like that for Abandoned Comics. You should see her drawings of Sonic the Hedgehog and stuff. She is a talented cartoonist too.

You will probably find yourself wanting to stay and talk for a long while but don't forget there are others around too. Some selling old collections of comics they have gathered over the years. Possibly stuff that would make you nostalgic for those good old days when you got a comic, a Mars Bar, tube of Frosties and a bag of Taytos when you were a kid. Why not buy that comic that is making you misty eyed show it to your kid or possibly your significant other and buy that Mars Bar and Taytos. I didn't say Frosties, as I am not sure they are making them anymore. How sad. They don't do Postman Pats anymore, now I am sad.

Oh well, moving on, there will be a talented young lady who is new to the scene. I say that and she has already done over 60 pages of her manga which she displays from time to time. I am proud to say we hired her for Rírá 3 for a nice little comic strip. Agata Romańska is going from strength to strength.

Brendan McCarthy is also making an appearance from 2pm to 3pm. I understand he will have copies of Zaucer of Zilk there too (I cannot confirm this completely). However should you have bought this man's work over the years I am sure you would love to make his acquaintance for the hour that he is there. We are very very fortunate to have him there.

There will be others.

So that is all I have for you. The promise of a bunch of talent from this small place in the West of Ireland. The promise of comic goodies for those to salivate over. The promise of a chat, yarn and a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon where we would love to meet you. Yes, you. I know you are pointing at your chest and asking 'Me?' just to be sure but yes I mean you. And that person behind you carrying that lovely looking mug of tea with biscuits. Are those Bourbon Creams? Bring them too. No. Not them the biscuits. Oh, you might as well bring them too.

Remember, Ennis Comic Mart in the Templegate Hotel, March 24th 2013 from 10am in the morning till 6pm in the evening (you would be so surprised how many turn up 10pm at night thinking it's on till 6 in the morn, we don't want that disappointment happening). Please come. We will be waiting (not in a creepy way in a we have tea and biccies way call over way (I don't have tea and biccies, you do, bring them)).

Also bear in mind I do not have the whole story. Check out www.irishcomicnews.com for more info.
