Three primary school classes in East Meath are set to become published authors this year, releasing their own original works of fiction based on local history. Funded by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media under their Commemorations fund, Meath County Council Library Service appointed renowned Author Brian Gallagher as Writer-in-Residence to work with the schools on a project inspired by the destruction of a railway bridge on the main Dublin to Belfast line before the Battle of Drogheda....

The Ocean Hero awards celebrate the work done by groups, individuals, communities, and businesses who have dedicated time and effort to protect their local coastline and its surrounding environment. Route 187, which runs from Kells, Co. Meath, to Ballyjamesduff, Co. Cavan, will now provide six daily trips seven days a week and, for the first time, offer a Sunday service. Bus Éireann has introduced enhanced services and timetables on Route 187, Kells to Ballyjamesduff. The significantly enhanced services are part of the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan, a major national public transport initiative developed and funded by the NTA as part of the Transport for Ireland (TFI) Network....

I was served a couple of miserable soups lately and it's a sad sight when they come out presented badly for starters, never mind their taste or texture not delivering either. Soup really is a culinary basic and it's one of the first things we learn in professional cooking and I would firmly believe if a soup is done right there will be very little wrong with the rest of the menu....

The new school building at Enfield Community College has received approval from the Department of Education for enabling works to proceed. The secondary school opened in 2020 with just 33 pupils on the old ESB premises which is now the community hub. It is currently in modular temporary accommodation on the permanent site and currently has 535 pupils enrolled. The new building will have a capacity of 1,000 post-primary pupils and four dedicated classrooms for children with special educational needs....

Gavin Ryan from Ratoath Golden Gloves earned his place as the 2025 National Elite champion at 57kg after a unanimous decision win over Donagh Keary. Gacvin said that he “couldn’t hope for a better result,” as this was his first time competing in the elite championships. He started competing at 11 years old and has now won his 12th Irish title so far and has become Meath’s first All Ireland elite boxing champion since 1990....

Composers, singers and writers in Meath have the chance to create a new song representing Ireland in the Celtic nations’ answer to the Eurovision. They are being asked to enter their top tunes - as Gaeilge - for the Pan Celtic International Festival 2025, which launches on Wednesday Dec 4th. Entrants must submit their original song by December 30th to be in the running to perform on Carlow’s George Bernard Shaw Theatre at the VISUAL stage on January 25th....

250 local guests gathered at Dunboyne Castle on Sunday 17th of November for a celebratory evening of community, fashion, shopping and Christmas festivities. The evening was in aid of nearby Rathregan National School, Batterstown, Co Meath who are fundraising to build an astro pitch for the children, in addition to supporting sporting and cultural activities for the school children. The evening raised over €35,000 thanks to the many generous supporters and sponsors....

In early November, members of Enfield Rathmolyon Men's Shed presented planter boxes to St Mary's Primary School in Enfield. The parish organises two very active 'sheds' for women and men, in the community. The sheds are a wonderful community based environment, which provides participants an opportunity to meet, have a chat, a cup of tea (and a bun) while learning new skills, and undertaking a range of activities and projects....

The Heritage Council has announced the national winners and runners-ups for national awards at the annual National Heritage Week awards ceremony which took place on Friday 15th November at Royal Hospital Kilmainham. The Windtown school transport service in Navan were allocated €50,000 through the Dormant Accounts Fund which was set up to support disadvantaged people across the country. The Dormant Accounts Fund received a €44.8 million investment for projects nationwide and fund measures that address economic, social, or educational disadvantage and disability support. "The service has been in operation for seven years and has been hugely successful in keeping children in school to leaving cert level and beyond,” Navan Mayor Cllr....

Meath County Council announced a budget of €232 million for 2025, an increase of over €23.3m (or 11.2%) from this year’s budget. Meath County Council’s yearly budget has grown exponentially over the decade with 2020 funding being as low as €139m. MCC Chief Executive said housing was a top priority shown in its over €5m increase in its budget from €65m this year to €70.8m for 2025 with the council having a target to deliver 1,525 additional social housing units up to 2026....
