Safe in the harbour.

2/3 of my latest photos from Dun Laoghaire. Feels like half of Dublin was out there over the best few days. I dont think you can ever tire of the views out there on a clear evening.

Whats your favourite place to shoot in Dublin during the summer months? Let me know down below.

Summer in dublin.

So good to be outside of my 5km again. Last night was just one of those evenings that made for perfect shooting conditions. Dun Laoghaire is one of my favourite places for an evening stroll, and its great to finally get back there.

The second of two photos taken at Sandymount of this man standing on his own on a sand bar. This was my first attempt of creating photos like this, and I think it came out pretty well. I wouldnt call it fine art, but it feels a little bit more special than some of my other photos.

Check out the first photo and some tips on how I edited it in my previous post.

The home of The Black Stuff.

Instagram Vs reality. Swipe to see!

The set up:
Canon 80D
Canon 50mm f/1.8
Tripod
30 sec shutter at f/22
ISO 100

I've been waiting to get this shot for years! They've finally taken that damn scaffold down. All I'm short now is a show pic and a reflection shot to complete the trio.

The original vs edit here really shows the power of shooting RAW. What do you think of the edit? Would you have done something different?

Happy new year everyone.

2020 has been a strange one. I'm one of those people that was lucky enough to have a good year despite whats happened.

I've finished my masters, grown my page to a level I didnt think I'd get to, sold prints to international customers, become a better photographer and overall I've learn a lot about myself.

Lots of people won't have been as lucky, and I am grateful I have been able to make the most of such a crazy year. You shouldn't feel bad if things didn't go your way this year. It's important to find the little victories in every day, and learn everything we can at any given moment.

I hope you'll all continue to support me and my work in the coming year, and find something in the content that I post.

Stay safe,
Brendan

(Apologies for the overly clichéd post, but I feel it's acceptable for the day that's in it. This isn't something I would normally do.)

Dublin Noir 1/3

With Instagram flooded with Christmas lights and general Christmas related content, I thought it might be cool to try something different. What do you think?

This was shot handheld, shutter speed is 1/100 at f/1.8, and the ISO at 100. This meant the RAW file was super under exposed, but was tack sharp for a handheld night shot. Shooting RAW meant I was able to over expose it in lightroom with little to no noise or artefacts. Take a look at my story to see the before of this edit.

Slight cyberpunk2020 inspiration here too, I wont lie.

Stay safe, wash your hands, wear a mask, and maybe we can all go for Christmas pints.

Its always good to get a different perspective of well photographed areas. This apartment block is usually overlooked, but becomes a pretty cool subject by night.

Waiting for the planes to tumble, waiting for the towns to fall.

Grand Canal Dock is pretty epic by day, but at night in turns in a different place. The canal becomes mirror still, the harsh lights give some crazy vibes and the buzz turns from work to play.

A great place to go and practice long exposures, or to find different angles to photograph some well known buildings. Just dont p**s off the swans.

It might be over soon.

Gougane Barra has to be the best find of lockdown. The church is beautiful and it's a very picturesque area, with great walks around the forest floor. But its the hikes in the mountains behind it that the real beauty lies. I cannot recommend it enough.

Sounds from a safe harbour.

Found this little gem on Sherkin Island, its a tiny harbour with a few hidden beaches. Horseshoe Harbour seems to be a lesser known area of the island despite being very close to the pier - the only point on and off the island. Take a left at the first junction and keep walking. There's also a light house with what seems to be an abandoned house on one side, so well worth a look.

The Franciscan Friary on Sherkin Island with the Baltimore Beacon poking out behind.

Founded in the mid 1400s this Friary, or the Abbey as it's known is still in pretty good condition. You can't get around inside, which was a let down, but its amazing to look at either way.

Sherkin is a €12 round trip (no they don't make you pay to get home) from Baltimore Harbour, good social distancing on the ferry as you can stand outside. So its ideal for a COVID free day trip for anyone currently stuck in Cork. It also goes once every hour or so, so you can get over and back pretty handy. Just bring decent walking shoes!

Its a simple life.

Sherkin is a bit of a mad house, it very much has a unique feel to it. Its hard to describe, but if you've been there you'll know what I mean.

There are some nice hikes around the island and some amazing beaches on the western side. The pub and restaurant are currently closed, but there is a B&B open on the western side that does serve food. No beer though... If you are in Cork and looking for a lockdown adventure, you should definitely consider a trip out here.

This was by far the most amazing sunset I've ever seen. Taken on the ring of kerry just before coming into Portmagee. Low cloud and late summer sun makes for some amazing colours.
