TLDR: How to Optimize And Import Video Into Lens Studio

Lens Studio by Snapchat is an exciting new technology, and you can use it to create some amazing AR experiences. But to import a video into Lens Studio, there are a few things you need to keep in mind to make it work properly. In this video, I'm going to go over the basics of video importing and cover all the required steps to getting your video ready for import.

A while back I was talking to Snap Dev. Relations, and we talked about how it'd be cool to collaborate with a local business for the festival of Diwali.

I ended up collaborating with not one, but 4 brands in total, including a Bank and an EV brand.

More details on the way, was gonna record a reel but I haven't yet cuz ✨procrastination✨.

So please wait. please and thank you 👍

Thank you and Snap Dev. Rel. For this opportunity.

Recently everyone keeps asking me the same question - namely, since you can't code and you're doing AR, does that mean that I shouldn't learn how to code? Of course not.

I can't code. I've learned to accept that, but I wish I knew how to code. That's why I respect and admire the people who can. There's a lot of benefits to be had for myself if I just knew how to code.

But I can't, so I rely on visual scripting and snippets of code that other creators have made publicly available. I try to make the best of the skills I do have.

So, if you're someone who wants to get into AR, and if you've tried to learn coding but have failed, come right in because if I can do it, you can too.

And if you're someone who hasn't even tried to learn coding, you should. Coding can be a very useful skill regardless of the industry you're in.

Just wanted to make that clear.

One of my biggest struggles when discussing AR commissions with my clients is being able to quote a price that's fair for both myself and the client.

So, I created an anonymous survey and sent it out to professional AR Creators who have been in the industry for years.

Here are the numbers that came out of that survey.

PS: I've heard the quote from several creators and freelancers, Jamie being the most recent (in his reel). I had to credit someone, so I just went with him. So you know that's credible advice, not something I'm just pulling out of a magic hat lol.

2 HUGE announcements!

1) I've a YouTube Channel Now! (Feels like I'm doing so much nowadays lol)

It's called Escape by Tan, Escape is going to be my content brand. Reason being, my plan is to establish myself as a content creator and educator. I've plans for creating premium quality tutorials, courses, and a podcast.

Whereas itstanxr is going to be my freelancing brand where I work with clients.

2) I've shot, edited, and uploaded the first tutorial already. It wouldn't make sense to send you guys to a empty channel. It's scheduled to drop in 30 hours. (It was supposed to drop in 12 hours, but I made a half asleep mistake while scheduling so I'm just going with it)

It's about making an immersive phone wallpaper. There's no basic hand holding in this one, cuz if you're making this effect, I'm assuming you know the basics of using lens studio and spark ar.

I've been procrastinating on this for SO LONG. But I finally did it and got a business email.

Even if you don't plan on having a website, a business email with custom domain can be very useful.

It's also super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Step 1. Buy a domain
Step 2. Get a free business email account from mail
Step 3. Tell people about your business email

I no like insects. And I don't care what insect it is, if it has wings, it needs to go.

I watching a Joe Rogan podcast and they were talking about how it would be hell on earth if praying mantis suddenly became 5ft tall.

Imagine 5 foot tall insects that could fly 💀💀

You don't have to reinvent the wheel every time you start working on a new project.

Using stock assets saves you time and money. Which can be invested elsewhere.

"But I've to buy assets, and working is free. So how exactly will I be saving money?"

You say that cuz you aren't paying yourself for that time. Which is basically losing money.

Let's say it takes you 2 hours to design an asset. Let's take £8/hr (about minimum wage in UK) as what you should be paying yourself at least. That's £16 for 1 asset.

That money would get you access to an entire stock asset library on subscription. Or you could buy a pack of assets for £5.

Of course, if you're making a dream project where you'd like to make everything from scratch, go for it. If you're building an artistic project where you need to add your own touch, absolutely go for it.

But in most scenarios, you'll find that using stock assets does the same job as making your own assets. Moreover it saves you time and money like I said.

Not the mentions the thousands of free assets readily available for use online.

I bring this up because I've seen a kind of stigma around using stock assets, calling it "lazy work".

Lmk what you think.

XR space in general is evolving at a very fast pace, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to comment on it. AR on the other hand, is a field I've played in, made mistakes in, and learnt from those mistake in.

So here are the factors, that I think, are driving the evolution of AR.

It isn't an exhaustive list, but these are the main ones I believe.

- utility: AR effects or apps that make our lives easier. Or lay the foundation for it. For example, 's AR concept of , and .swords 's concept on how AR could assist in the kitchen.

- aesthetic: though it kinda falls under utility, I think it's so massive that it deserves its own category. It's everything from colour luts & makeup filters to AR fashion. The aim is to change your appearance, or of an object, or of your environment. Prime examples that I can think of are, who's ruling the AR makeup scene, and who's Bee filter recently went viral where you make yourself look like a cute bee flying through the sky like it's on a mission. (He also has a SparkAR masterclass if you wanna get started on your AR journey)

- activity: this category is quite simple. It's using AR for the purpose of fun or artistic expression. I was originally going to call it "leisure" category, but changed my mind because creators like pursue art through AR on a regular basis, and not just in their leisure time.

Now did I deliberately write my caption in a way where I can tag as many creators as I can? You bet your ass I did. I need the engagement.

But also, I did it so you could go to their pages and see their work if you haven't already. They're amazing creators doing amazing work.

I'm a testament to this statement. Yes, knowing code and learning design principles does help. But it is, in no way, shape, or form, necessary to start your AR journey.

What you need is motivation, inspiration, and a guide. Because that's all I had when I started. I wanted to learn and found amazing creators to learn from, like

The AR community is one of the most generous and welcoming communities. I've met amazing people like , , .studio , and so many more.

If you've been curious about AR, this is your sign to get started!

Some people fail to realise how self aware I am.

I know sometimes I say too much and sometimes I say too little. I know the things I do and even the things I overdo.

You could say sometimes I overshare or talk about something very random out of nowhere.

When people see all this, they assume it is my aim to get their attention, which is something I hope for ngl, but it's not something I intentionally aim for.

I've been labelled as "attention-seeking" before, but recently someone called me a "pick me", albeit jokingly.

So now that we're talking about what 'pick me' is, I thought I might as well share my thoughts and my story.

I think getting people's attention or them liking me, is like rain.

If the forecast says it's going to rain, I hope that it doesn't rain. But if it does rain, I'll be okay with that too since it was expected.

Idk where I'm going with this train of thought right now, but to summarise,

I'd rather be embarrassed about my actions or get irritated by the reactions I get, than have regrets of never doing or saying things I wanted to do or say.

Tldr; As long as you don't intend to harm anyone, do the things you want to do and say the things you want to say. Life's too short for regrets.

PS: how's the yellow aesthetic?
