When I decided to record some more episodes of Let’s Talk About The Arts, I wanted to record in a creative space that was a safe and positive place for artists.
There are so many gorgeous artist spaces in Dublin and it’s so important that we support and uplift these locations. There are so many incredible creatives, artists and potential magic in Ireland, and artist spaces are vital to support artists and the making of art.
I had my eyes on The Dean Art Studios on Chatham Row. The building use to the the Conservatory of Music and Drama, where I had went to college, and I feel so honoured to have gone to the college at the time I did. It was special.
I knew about The Dean Art Studios through social media and other artists, but hadn’t put two and two together that the studios were located in the same building that the old college use to be.
I slide into the DAS dm’s and the wonderful Kate was incredibly welcoming and invited me to come in for a chat. After a gorgeous chat with Kate, she generously invited me to record some episodes at the DAS and I ended up recording the last four episodes in the same room I did my final year recitals. There was a lot of full circle moments.
As an artist, I was so comforted and inspired by Kates passion for the DAS, and the creative energy that had been created by her, the DAS team and the resident artists.
Buildings and initiatives like the DAS are so powerful for artists, and as you know my opinion, the arts are so important.
I want to say the biggest thank you to Kate and all at the DAS for letting me come into the space. I’m a big believer in creating the right environment to open up the right space for the conversations I’m asking artists to have. Thank you for the safe, open and magical space to allow myself, Niamh, José, Fionnuala and Laura to dive into our artsy chats.
Here’s to more arts spaces, more creations and more collaborations as we head into 2024
