The final 18 names were added to the plaque on the memorial in the Railway station. Thanks to the contractor Celtic Commemorations for their work on this project. This memorial is now finished and any other names will be available on our website.

Lovely story.

Lovely story.

She died of a fever
And no one could save her
And that was the end of sweet Molly Malone,
But her ghost wheels her barrow
Through streets broad and narrow
Crying 'Cockles and mussels, alive, alive, oh!'

Molly Malone can be found wheeling her barrow just a short walk from Dublin's Trinity College, on Suffolk Street. The song, to which everyone knows at least the chorus, tells the tale of Molly who sold fish on the streets of Dublin and died young, of a fever. There's no actual evidence that the song is based on a real person but the Irish never let a small matter like that stand in the way of a good story. Legend has it that Molly lived in the 17th century and is typically represented as a hawker by day and a 'working girl' by night. In contrast, she has also been portrayed as one of the few chaste street-hawkers of her day. It depends which tour guide you ask. 😉

Time to re visit the Longman effigy who has been finally encased due to the wear of the stone work and our ever increasing cold and wet winters. Be nice to see it again and update my photographs but I'm so glad to have so many beautiful shots of it as it was too. Here is some photos from a few years ago when it was open to the elements.
