Dr. Geoff King was the first Director of the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC). The Geoff King Award recognises an individual, a community, an organisation or group that has gone the extra mile, gone outside their comfort zone, put in a special effort or were innovative in some way in strengthening the “chain of survival”. This year's recipient of the Geoff King Award certainly meets the criteria. Congratulations to Padraic Loughnane of Eyrecourt CFR Group, this year’s winner.

Padraic has established and developed the Eyrecourt CFR since 2016. He has provided training for the group and streamlined responses to calls not only within his own group but for many other CFR groups across the country.

Carlow County Fire & Rescue Service has rolled out the first fire engine in the world that combines state-of-the-art software with hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO).

Firefighters are getting set to climb aboard the first emergency service vehicle, powered by the green fuel HVO, in early September. The engine was built locally over a six-month period by Tullow firm HPMP Fire Ltd.

The rollout ties in with Carlow County Council’s Climate Action Plan, which aims to reduce carbon emissions by 51% and increase energy efficiency in the public sector to 50% by 2030.
