It’s launch season, and we can’t wait for the publication of Angela Byrne’s fascinating new book Anarchy and Authority at Hodges Figgis, Dawson Street, Dublin, on Thursday the 3rd of October.
Byrne has expertly and intimately woven together stories of the lives of Irish men and women who ventured into the Russian empire of the 18th and 19th centuries, and witnessed some of the most momentous changes of those tumultuous years. The book sheds new light not only on Irish lives and how they were part of the fabric of that empire, but on the lives of Irish women in particular, and how they bore witness to history and made themselves part of it.
Anarchy and Authority is available to preorder from all good bookshops, and from lilliputpress.ie

What an incredible review of Estelle Birdy’s ‘Ravelling’ in The Guardian, a ‘beautifully poetic’ sprawling social novel.
‘What is most successful in the novel is Birdy’s depiction of an immediately recognisable young manhood that will be familiar to readers far beyond the Liberties area in Dublin, where Ravelling is set. Birdy has a fantastic ear, and is meticulous in portraying the profoundly articulate inarticulacy of young people, the idiolects through which their lives are negotiated.’
