NEW DOC: Podcast now, or tune into RTÉ Radio 1 Christmas day at 2pm where, in a rare interview, we meet with Johanna Harwood - the Irish woman who wrote the screenplays for the James Bond movies 'Dr. No' and 'From Russia With Love' including coming up with the "Goya Joke" - one of the most famous visual jokes in the whole series. Now in her 90s (refusing to reveal her exact age) and living in Monaco, Johanna looks back on a life almost as colourful and exciting as any Bond script!

When Johanna Harwood left Bray in the 1950s, she was determined to get into the film business - and she succeeded, working on the first two James Bond movies in the early 1960s.

This weekend we bring you something from our 2014 season - the story of the only man in Kerry to be buried twice!

The only man in Kerry to be buried twice. Con Carey was a bachelor labourer who died on his way home from the pub in 1978. His story is still spoken about. Why? Because of what happened him after death - and of the 12 locals involved - the 12 apostles

NEW DOC: Podcast now, listen via link below or Saturday 2pm RTÉ Radio 1 Over the centuries, millions of people emigrated from the island of Ireland to the United States. Every one of those people left someone behind as they went to find a better life in a new land. The only way to stay in touch with family and friends was through a letter home and millions were written and sent back and forth over time. Now a new archive of letters at University of Galway reveals the stories of these Irish emigrants, their loves, losses, lives and deaths. The archive was collected over 5 decades by Kerby A. Miller, Emeritus Professor of History at University of Missouri and Honorary Professor of History at University of Galway, who donated the material to the University of Galway Library.

NEW DOC: Podcast now or listen Saturday 2pm RTÉ Radio 1 Incels – or involuntary celibates – are people who define themselves as being unable to form romantic or sexual relationships. The online incel world is a dark and misogynistic place and incels themselves rarely talk to the media. In “Invisible Men – Ireland’s Incels” we talk to Irish incels to discover what the world looks like from their perspective.

Paul – not his real name – is in his thirties, and he has never had a sexual or romantic relationship. He goes to work and gets on with his colleagues but nobody knows the life of quiet despair that he lives. Nobody knows that he is an 'incel'. (2024)
