HAVE YOU SEEN HANNI?
Gardaí are seeking help in finding 25 year old Hanni Binti Hanif who was reported missing in Cork city on Sunday 19 January. Hanni was last in contact with family abroad in December 2024.
Hanni is 5 feet 4 inches with a medium build, black hair and brown eyes. Gardaí and Hanni's family are concerned for her wellbeing. Anyone with info on her whereabouts should contact Anglesea Street Garda Station on 021-4522000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666111, or any garda station.

Cork may have escaped the worst of things as Storm Éowyn passed over the country last night, though thousands on Leeside remain without power this morning. Cork County Council’s Director of Services Padraig Barrett said it appeared the Cork had “escaped the worst” of the storm. Latest update on storm impact 👇👇👇

RED WARNING LIFTED:
Cork seems to have fared better than some other counties although left a record 715k houses without power and record gusts were recorded. There are trees down all over Cork and thousands of houses are without power including Riverstown, Bandon, Carrigtwohill, Midleton and many more areas. There are trees down in the city and a partial wall collapse on the Lee Road too. The Orange wind warning continues until midday in Cork. Stay safe! ⚠️

Both councils and the Govt are advising people to shelter at home tomorrow during which could be the strongest storm in decades. US storm experts have flown in to study it. 👉Red warning valid from 2am-10am tomorrow.👈
- Do not go outside during the red warning.
- Do not make unnecessary journeys during the period of the orange warning, which lasts until tomorrow at 4pm
- Take care as structural damage may have occurred to buildings
- Stay away from quays, coasts, rivers and lakes
- Stay away from any fallen electricity lines or tree

SNOW STRANGER TO THE ARCTIC!
A brave and relentless Cork adventurer has completed his 26th trek in the Arctic, raising thousands for charity in the process.
Anthony Galvin, who works as a children’s entertainer and magician, raised a whopping €71K for Sightsavers, an international charity. The total is expected to get close to €80K when all money raised is in and counted. 👏👏👏

MICHEÁL MARTIN TO BE NEXT TAOISEACH:
Ireland will have another Cork taoiseach after the Dáil approved the proposal to nominate Micheál Martin as taoiseach for appointment by President Higgins later today. In a vote at lunchtime, there were 95 votes in favour of the Corkman, with 76 against. The Fianna Fáil leader will travel to Áras an Uachtaráin to receive his seal of office from President Higgins.

FRIENDS LAID TO REST THIS WEEK:
One of two men found dead in Cork city on the same day was laid to rest yesterday, with his friend’s funeral is taking place at the moment. Shane O’Sullivan, 31, was buried yest in St Finbarr’s Cemetery following a requiem mass in Togher. Mr O’Sullivan was found dead in Kyrl’s Quay on Friday. Several hours before Mr O’Sullivan’s body was discovered, the body of 28 year old Shane Grimes was found at Fitzgerald's Park. Very sad news.

Cork is bracing itself for what could be the storm with the strongest winds in decades with a significant danger to life. Met Éireann's latest warnings include a status yellow rain warning from 9pm tonight. A status red wind warning begins at 2am on Friday until 10am, with an orange wind warning valid until 4pm on Friday. Stay safe everyone! 🌬💨

Met Éireann has issued a status red wind alert for Cork from tomorrow, Friday, with the arrival of Storm Éowyn bringing extremely dangerous conditions and gusts exceeding 130kmph.

ÉOWYN COULD BE HISTORIC STORM:
A status red wind warning has been issued for Cork on Friday with Met Éireann warning of a possible “danger to life” with the arrival of Storm Éowyn expected to bring “damaging and destructive” winds. Travelling conditions are likely to extremely dangerous and structural damage is expected. The warning comes into effect at 3am on Friday until 10am that day with schools set to close. MTU is to open at noon. Met Éireann's senior forecaster Gerry Murphy advised people to stay at home on Friday. 💨☔️

COBH ANNOUNCE RAFT OF EXCITING SIGNINGS: ⚽️
This morning Cobh Ramblers have announced the signing of ex-Cork City midfielder Barry Coffey. Yesterday Cobh added 25 year old Finnish defender Jonas Häkkinen to their squad for the season. He also spent 3 years with Cork City. Last week Cobh signed the 28 year old former Cork City captain Cian Coleman.
Earlier this month the Cobh club had a bit of a coup in signing former Shelbourne and Cork City defender Shane Griffin who has just won the Premier League with Damien Duff's men.

Today Donald Trump will be sworn in as US president for the second time. The swearing-in ceremony begins at midday local time which is 5pm Irish time. Mr Trump has arrived at the US Capitol ahead of being sworn in as the 47th president. George W Bush, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama have all been spotted walking in.

VOTE CORK FOR BEST 2024 SONG! 🗳🎤🎧
3 songs by Cork artists have made it onto the shortlist for the RTÉ Choice Music Prize Irish Song of the Year 2024.
‘Quiet’ by Chubby Cat, ‘Here It Is’ by Cian Ducrot, and the sensational track, ‘The Spark’ by Kabin Crew, have all made it into the final ten songs for 2024. The winning song will be announced on 6 March. Best of luck to all 3 groups!

On Sunday 20 October at around 5.30pm, the Sars players, management and supporters head out of SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh disappointed at surrendering their grip on the Sean Óg Murphy Cup and wondering where to go from there.
