In Ireland, women who are working (in the private sector) only get time off to breastfeed or pump until baby is 6 months old, even though the World Health Organisation recommends feeding to 2 and beyond. Many mothers go back to work between 7 months and 1 year after their baby is born and they may still be breastfeeding. This means trying to find time in their working day to pump, eating or working while pumping, trying to locate a secure and private space to pump and much more. Leaving your baby to go back to work can be difficult, but negotiating terms to continue feeding your baby while back at work should not be part of this challenge. This the theme is and I urge women to continue challenging and fighting for the time and space to pump or feed their baby while working.
