In the last episode of our first season, designer Lou Brennan tells us to "get comfortable with being uncomfortable".
Lou graduated in textile design just before the world of fashion underwent a massive change from analogue to digital.
For many years, that didn’t matter: she worked for Alexander McQueen and John Rocha, and sold her designs to the likes of Donna Karan, Giorgio Armani and Dolce & Gabbana.
But having kids widened that skills gap further. And when the time came to re-enter the fashion workforce, Lou had a mountain to climb.

That’s a good thing for the business she co-founded, PAX Whole Foods & Eco Goods, which enables people to get their food and household shopping as packaging-free as possible.
But working against the grain of an established supply chain – and introducing customers to a new way of shopping – takes huge amounts of time and energy for McKinley and the rest of PAX’s all-female team.
In our next episode, we get an insight into how they’re meeting these unique challenges – and bringing a more sustainable future within reach for consumers in the west of Ireland.
