💥 Our 3 festivals have a combined economic impact of more than €3.8 million 💥

📌 In 2023 West Cork Music generated an additional €6.38 for every euro of public money invested in the organisation

📌 In 2023 the estimated impact on jobs in the area was 42.6 full-time equivalent positions

🙏 So a big thank you to everyone in the town who volunteers, ushers, provides accommodation and rehearsal spaces. Not only are you helping to make great art happen here in Bantry, but it’s part of a wider positive impact for the community!

The independent Economic Impact Assessment was carried out by Prof. Eleanor Doyle, Global Competitiveness Institute, Cork University Business School, University College Cork.

‘One Night in Millstreet’ | Irish Gala Cork International Film Festival | 8.30pm, Sat 11th Nov, The Everyman |

The Cork International Film Festival Irish Gala will be the World Premiere of highly anticipated documentary ‘One Night in Millstreet’, directed by two time Best Sports Doc IFTA winner Andrew Gallimore and produced by Morgan Bushe and Peter Murnaghan, screening November 11th in The Everyman, Cork.

The St. Patrick’s weekend of 1995 witnessed an extraordinary thing, a world championship boxing match deep in the countryside of County Cork. ‘One Night in Millstreet’ not only relives the titanic contest that took place in the Green Glens Arena, but also marks the trajectory of the two competitors. The preening, self-regarding, and mentally formidable Super Middleweight Champion, Chris Eubank, and the hungry challenger from Cabra, Steve Collins. Take a ringside seat to the giddy and hype-laden hoopla!

West Cork Music has long held a dream of a dedicated venue in Bantry. A purpose-built hub for its three summer festivals and year-round education and entertainment activities for visitors and the people of West Cork.

WCM has proposed the Bantry Music Centre project. A new building, based on a ‘whole town’ approach, the Centre will complement the wonderful array of existing venues in the area.

With your input, West Cork Music can build a Centre that reflects and responds to the local community and the visitors who attend and support the festivals every year – West Cork Chamber Music Festival, West Cork Literary Festival and Masters of Tradition.

Happy Tuesday, Bantry Community.

Many of you saw a post from us two weeks ago that promised exciting, colourful things were coming your way. Unfortunately, we have been informed that we need to apply for planning permission to bring our Marino Street mural to life. This has put a temporary halt to our progress, but not to our determination.

There is currently a bill in the second stage before Dáil Éireann that wants to "amend Planning and Development Regulations to provide for exemptions from planning permission for certain categories of public art murals". The future is bright! Follow the progress here https://www.oireachtas.ie/en/bills/bill/2023/9/
While street artists nationwide await the passing of the bill, and while our team works at getting the required go-ahead for this project, have a sneak peek at the artists' vision and keep your fingers crossed for a positive outcome.
