BCRFM History

Ballina Community Radio began as an idea in August 2013 and with positive feedback to the launch of a page it grew to a steering committee been formed in October.

BCRFM began broadcasting online in July 2014 from a compact studio on Casment Street in Ballina town centre. The focus was and continues to be in raising awareness of local groups, charities, events, and to have the voices of local people represented on the radio.

The station broadcast on FM with two successful 30-day licenses awarded in 2015 and 2017. The station secured its first 100-day license in June 2019, a Temporary Sound Broadcasting Contract for a Pilot Community Service.

Taking its cue from community radio elsewhere, BCRFM is a non-profit station that is volunteer-lead.
