The government has been planning to revise the regulations on Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) and Carbon Capture Utilization Storage (CCUS).

During the Gastech Conference in Singapore on Sept 5, Director-General of Oil and Gas of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Tutuka Ariadji said the government was in the middle of revising the CCS/CCUS regulation to push the investment in the oil and gas sector and improve cost management.

To date, Tutuka said, Indonesia hosted 15 ongoing CCS/CCUS projects. “We expect the investment will be not less than US$10 billion,” Tutuka said, as quoted by Reuters.

On Mar 2, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif issued Regulation No. 2/2023 on CCS/CCUS in the oil and gas upstream sector.

He added that the regulation was part of the government’s effort to reach the oil and low-emission gas, as well as boosting the gas and oil production.

The Financial Services Authority (OJK) announced that two banks, PT Bank Nationalnobu Tbk (NOBU) and PT Bank MNC Internasional Tbk (BABP), are in the process of negotiating their share ownership for the merged entity. NOBU belongs to the Lippo Group, while BABP belongs to the MNC Group.

OJK’s Chief Executive for Banking Supervision Dian Ediana Rae said the two banks had passed their evaluation. “This is a critical stage; they are discussing the share ownership and there might be some technical issues,” he said.

Dian added that both parties have not canceled their merger plan. However, they have requested permission to delay their financial report submission because they want to conduct an audit.

He explained that an audit of financial statements is usually done when a company is about to undertake a corporate action. OJK had previously set the target for the NOBU-BABP merger to be completed by August 2023.

The Merah Putih Fund, a venture capital institution established by several state-owned enterprises, is ready to inject capital into technology startups.

According to the Chairman of the Merah Putih Fund's Project Management Office, Eddi Danusaputro, The venture serves the national agenda of promoting the growth of the domestic technology ecosystem and enhancing Indonesia's position in global innovation.

Merah Putih Fund aims to amplify the presence of local investors in homegrown startups. He mentioned that the Indonesian startup ecosystem has already produced 12 unicorns and two decacorns.

However, ownership of these billion-dollar-valued startups is still predominantly in the hands of foreign entities. "What can be done is to encourage local investors to balance foreign investments," he said Monday.
