The Conjuring: Last Rites is the fourth installment in the hugely popular horror franchise, telling a completely new story while bringing back some memorable faces from the cast of the first three movies
With the latest chapter in the franchise teasing its future, director Michael Chaves offers an update on The Conjuring 4 after The Nun II’s post-credits scene. Chaves, who previously helmed the loosely connected The Curse of La Llorona and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, returns to the James Wan-produced franchise with the sequel to the 2018 hit spinoff. The Nun II also sees the returns of Taissa Farmiga as Sister Irene and Bonnie Aarons as the eponymous demon Valak, who embarks on a streak of murders of priests and nuns across Europe in search of a powerful artifact.
In honor of the movie’s release, SlashFilm caught up with Michael Chaves to break down The Nun II. When asked about the movie’s post-credits scene and how it sets up the in-development The Conjuring: The Last Rites, the franchise director noted that writing is still ongoing for the fourth mainline movie and acknowledged that “it could go a couple different ways,” but expressed his excitement for it and teased there is “a great finale” planned for it.

Serving as a prequel to the renowned sci-fi action-horror franchise, the 2022 film focused on Amber Midthunder’s character, Naru, during the early 1700s in the Great Plains, as she battled to defend her tribe against the arrival of the legendary Predator. Released exclusively on Hulu, the Predator movie garnered critical acclaim, earning the highest reviews of the entire franchise, boasting a “Certified Fresh” approval rating of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Almost two years following the premiere of the previous movie on Hulu, Deadline reveals that Prey 2 is in its preliminary development phase at 20th Century Studios. While no returning talent has been confirmed yet, discussions are underway for Amber Midthunder to revisit her role as Naru in the sequel, diverging from the franchise’s tradition of sequels revolving around new characters. Despite the excitement surrounding the sequel, the studio’s primary focus is currently directed towards a new standalone Predator film titled Badlands, helmed by Prey’s Dan Trachtenberg, who will both write and direct the project.

Venom 3 will be the first time a character in Sony's Spider-Man Universe has completed a trilogy and perhaps the only one, given the recent struggles of the rest of the franchise.

While Venom 3 is still in the midst of filming, Variety reports that The Changeling star Clark Backo has joined Sony's Spider-Man Universe in the threequel. Sony Pictures has yet to confirm Backo's Venom 3 casting. Further, the report does not specify who the actress may be playing in the movie.
