MLA Banihal Reviews Power Supply Situation, emphasizes no curtailment beyond schedule ;

Took stock of winter preparedness in rural areas in Banihal and Gool ;

Banihal; 14 Dec. ; National Conference (NC) leader and MLA Banihal, Mr. Sajjad Shaheen, convened a high-level meeting with Sub-Divisional Officers Banihal and Ramsoo, Tehsildars Banihal ,Khari, Ramsoo and Ukharhal, Executive Engineers, officers of PHE, Food and Supplies, Health department and other officials of the Power Development Department (PDD) to review the power situation in Banihal, Gool, and surrounding areas. The meeting, held at Confrence hall of GGHS Banihal, focused on addressing the challenges posed by plummeting temperatures and the increasing hardships faced by the people due to erratic power supply.

Expressing deep concern over unscheduled and frequent power outages, Mr. Shaheen strongly directed the officials to adhere strictly to the announced curtailment schedule, warning that deviations would not be tolerated.
He emphasized that the people of Banihal and Gool must not be subjected to further suffering, particularly in the biting cold of winter. He called for swift action to ensure that power outages are resolved without delay and directed that damaged distribution transformers be replaced promptly to restore electricity in affected areas.

Highlighting ongoing measures to improve power infrastructure, Mr. Shaheen reaffirmed the commitment of the National Conference to address the energy needs of the people. He lauded the proactive initiative of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who has sought an additional 300 MW of electricity from the Central Government to mitigate the acute power crisis in Jammu and Kashmir during winter. "The Chief Minister’s efforts reflect the party’s determination to ensure relief for the people and resolve long-standing issues in the power sector," he stated.

The MLA also underscored the need to combat power pilferage and urged officials to implement stringent enforcement measures to minimize losses. He stressed that a reliable and equitable power supply system is vital to safeguarding the well-being of the public, especially in remote and hilly regions where harsh winter conditions exacerbate daily hardships.
He later inspected the PDD's transformer workshop and the receiving station Banihal and took stock of the functiong of workshop and receiving station.

Mr. Shaheen reiterated his commitment to standing by the people of his constituency and ensuring that their grievances are addressed effectively. He called upon the administration to prioritize the basic needs of the public, including electricity, clean drinking water, and essential supplies.
